Babies: 9 - 12 Months

9 months and not crawling?

Anyone else's 9 monther not crawling yet?  I know every baby is different, but I'm starting to get a bit worried that she is behind.  She can now get on all fours but cries when we try to get her to crawl.  Any tips?

Re: 9 months and not crawling?

  • Do not worry.  My son was the same way.  He'd get on all four and rock for the longest time and I thought he'd never crawl.  He's almost 11 month and has probably only been crawling for about 3 weeks.  He's now into everything (especially cords and things he's not supposed to be into) so enjoy the peace while you can!  Smile

  • DD just started crawling yesterday at 9 1/2 months.
  • My little one is 9 months today and not crawling.  It is fine...some babies don't crawl until 11 months and some don't crawl at all and just move on to walking.  My LO is getting very close.  She rolls all over, gets up on her knees and then sits up.  She moves backwards and kind of lunges forward.  Like pp said...enjoy it while you can.  If you are concerned you can always ask your pedi but I am sure your LO is fine!!
  • My dd has just started moving her hands and knees forward. She will only move about 4 paces though.?
  • Crawling isn't a recognized milestone.  DD is almost a year old and just got up on her hands/knees last week.  Prior to that she'd go backwards on her belly on the hardwords (at 10mos) and then she had a brief inchworm phase (a few weeks before actually crawling).  Your LO is fine :-)  enjoy the time you still have where you can put her down and she stays there :-)  As I've said before, I don't see any 20 year olds who aren't eating solids and rolling around to get from here to there LOL.  At 9 mos I don't think DD was even getting up on all fours so I think that your LO is almost ready and will go on her own time.  Just give her lots of opportunity....and maybe put toys just outside her reach (we did that w/DD)

  • DD is not crawling either and I am ok with it for now  but I have a feeling it will not be long until she does. I just put toys around her when she is on the floor and she is definitely making progress!
  • Like a pp said, crawling is not a milestone, so your DC is not "behind."

DS only crawls backwords (like a pro!!) and he's been doing it for 1.5 months now.  He gets to where he needs to go so who cares!?!  He's pulling up on stuff too, so if he ever puts his gear in drive, I doubt it will be for very long.

    Good luck!!
