powder formula looks like more than it is

im using enfamil AR, but I add the 4 oz of water, and then the 2 scoops of powder, but when I mix it all up it looks like there's maybe 5 oz of formula in the bottle.  it might be bubbles that make it look fuller, but then how do I know what she's actually drank?  even when I let it sit overnight it still looks like more than the 4 oz.  how do you handle this?

and any recommendations for less bubbles is also appreciated.

    do you shake or stir?  I usually shake the bottles, but DH likes to use this formula stir thingy thats battery operated and tends to get less bubbles

    I know what you mean......it turns out to be a little more than 4 oz.....but I still refer to it as 4 oz.  Also, my pediatrician recommended stirring the formula instead of shaking it....to help reduce bubbles.

    I fill the bottle just under whatever oz line I am aiming for. When I add the powder, it hits the right oz.

    For the bubbles, I squeeze as much air out the nipple as I can. You can also put gas drops in the bottle. It will help gather the bubbles up.

    Put 1 or 2 drops of Mylacon in the bottle when you make it to get rid of bubbles.  If you only want 4 oz. bottles, maybe you should make a big batch of formula, then divy it out into bottles (I know with Similac Sensitive, you use 1 c. of powder and 26 oz. of water).

    I make a big batch and store it in the fridge, that gives it time for the bubbles to settle down.

    You should still fill the water up to the 4oz. line. It tells you on the can that each scoop adds .2oz to the amount in the bottle. So once you add the formula a 4oz. bottle is actually 4.4oz.

    I mix three bottles at a time. I use the salad dressing shaker from tupperware and do 12 oz of water and 6 scoops of formula.  I mix it up and then pour 3 - 4oz bottles.  If I make sure to pour slow the bubbles stay in the shaker and only the formula comes out.  We add mylacon drops when we get the bottle out and warm it - that collects the rest of hte bubbles that may be there.

    It will be over the 4oz because the powder adds volume. To the poster who is filling it less - it probably doesn't make that much of a difference, but you should be filling it up to the 4oz line. Your baby is getting more concentrated formula which can lead to dehydration (though I would not expect this in the amounts that you are talking about). When DD finished a 4oz bottle, I just call it 4.5oz. If you want to be exact about it, you can mix up a batch and then add mixed formula up to 4oz.
