It is. I think it used to be 1 in 4 a few years ago. It really is one of the most common stds out there. There are a few reasons --- people have it and don't realize it (you can have it for years and not have any symptoms so they unknowingly pass it on), it can still be spread just from skin-to-skin contact where a condom doesn't cover and even things like somene who has hsv1 (oral herpes/cold sores) can transmit it via oral sex. Oh, and it's not included in the normal battery of regular std screens done. The negative stigma makes a lot of people ignore what symptoms they do have, getting a RX or discussing it with partners.
