Cost of a nanny

Does anyone know where I can get some info regarding nanny/baby care cost? I have a close friend (a SAHM with a 2 yr old) who will be comming to my home to 2x a week to watch my LO while I work. She is an amazing mom and I feel so lucky that she has offered. I want to be sure that what I pay her is in line with what a childcare professional would charge. Any info?

  • I was a nanny before having DD, I got paid around $10.00 an hour. I hear it depends where you live also.

  • Care.com is a great resource. I just signed up and it lists all hourly wages and local sitters who have passed background checks.  It's $30 but well worth it. :)
  • Fabulous! Thanks for your info ladies.

I would think it is something she would have negotiated with you.  Near me, it is $10 an hour an a min.  Most full time nannies charge by the week, there is over time, sick, vacation, etc.  A lot depends on if you are paying her under the table or not.
  • Around here a home daycare for an infant would be about $35 a day and nanny makes around $15 an hour (some more, some less, depends on experience)

When I was watching my friend's baby (at my house, with a baby the same age as hers and my 2 year old) she paid me $25 a day. It was less than she would have paid for an in home daycare and a lot less than a center but I just did my normal running around and daily routine, just with one extra. Plus 2 days a week I only had her ds for about 3 hours and still was paid the same.

i was a nanny for a year and i was paid $15/hr when i started (monday thru sunday 8am-8pm)~ i still see the kids on the weekends to babysit and they give me $25/hr but they were twins and the one child has Autism and my background is in Autism so they paid me a lil more because of my expertise...
