how long does it take your LO to finish a bottle?

It takes Bella, on average, 45 minutes to finish a bottle. We are giving her 2.5 or 3 oz 8x a day.  She's also REALLY gassy so I'm concerned she's having issues sucking.  We had an ultrasound yesterday and the tech couldn't even see anything b/c she had so much gas in her belly. :( I know she's had issues with her suck, which caused us to stop breastfeeding weeks ago. She wasn't strong enough and only got 1/3 of an ounce during a 30 minute nursing session.

Any thoughts?  I'll talk to my GI specialist next week but was curious if anyone had similar experiences.  Thanks. :)

  • My DS was like that.  We switched to Dr. Browns bottles and it really helped.

  • Thanks for the suggestion.  My sister also uses Dr Browns bottles & said her son really likes them.  We bought a few last weekend and have been using them since but it doesn't seem to be making a significant difference for us. :(
  • Our dd used to take a long time to finish and was very very gasy the first few months also. We switched to Dr. Browns bottles and soy formula. I wasn't to keen on the soy, but coupled with the bottles it really helped. We just switched her back to reg formula and is tolerating it well now.
  • Oh and I've heard wonderful things about gripe water. By the time I heard about it she wasn't really having problems anymore so I never tried it myself

We're in the same boat.  He takes 2-3 oz every 3-4 hours and is very gassy.  We use Dr Brown's, I'm not sure if it helps or not.  We started using myclion (helps burp easier) and try to burp him really well.  It takes him like 45 min to eat - he gets the first 2 oz down quickly and the rest takes forevvvver.

Same thing about BF too - he will only BF for 13 min and gets too tired.  I dont think he's strong enough to get enough milk. :(

  • When we were having issues with it taking forever for him to eat, it turned out that the nipple hole was too small.  We moved up to the next Dr. Brown's level and now he just sucks it down.  He eats 8 oz. in 10 - 15 mins.
