high chair - registry remorse?

The invites have gone out for my shower, so I just finished perusing my registry, since I hadn't looked at it for weeks and I wanted to make sure I'm still confident in my choices.

Now I'm second-guessing my high chair choice.

I picked the Fisher-Price Rainforest Healthy Care High Chair because of its rating in Baby Bargains, but now I wonder if I really need a $110 high chair.

Anyone have a copy of the book handy to remind me why it's rated so highly?

Re: high chair - registry remorse?

  • I don't have the book with me, but I do remember that they liked the Fisher Price high chairs best.  (I remember this because they said they were best, but you had to be willing to get past the "garish patterns.")

I probably have a skewed view since the high chair I registered for is $160, but I don't think a $110 high chair sounds expensive.

From what I recall (and keep in mind I ignored this advice in favor of choosing a wooden high chair that I thought looked stylish (the Anka at BRU)), they liked the FP high chairs because they had trays that were easy to clean, the seat backs reclined, the pad was washable, etc.

  • DH and I decided to take our full size high chair off our registry. Instead we registered for one of those infant to toddler high chair seats that straps onto the chair. It reclines so it works great as a feeding seat for smaller babies and then progresses into basically a booster seat for older children. And I think it was only like $40. Works for us, especially with space issues. No reason to have a big one.

  • You do not need a high chair until the baby starts to sit up and eat solids. Also that is way too expensive for a high chair. I got mine from craigslist for free and it is a graco one in perfect shape.

We registered for and got the same chair. It grows with the kid and is cheap and doesn't take up a lot of space.

  • I just had my shower last weekend and it really didnt matter what I registered for... we got EVERything off our registry, but the cool thing is, we already started sorting thru stuff & deciding what we will need now & later... we already have $600 in BRU credit... so for me, I'm glad I registered for everything.. you're going to end up returning stuff anyway.
  • Thanks, ladies.  I'll re-read BB when I get home tonight, but I think it may stay as-is.  As pp posted out, if I get it and don't like it, I'll return it for credit.

Space isn't an issue for us, and we don't have a chair to which we would affix a grow-with-the-kid booster (all our dining and bar chairs are upholstered, and there's no way I'm strapping a kid to them).  We'd actually have to buy a simple bar stool or chair to use with a booster, so high chair is the way to go for us.

I'm just thinking maybe there's a cheaper version that may do just as well as the FP one.
