I have given him cottage cheese, cheerios, yogurt, canned peaches, and avacodo peices.
Other than that, I have no idea what solid foods to give him. It just seems like he isn't ready for things like waffles, pasta, and chicken. Aren't you scared of choking? He just has two tiny teeth on the bottom. He does watche what we eat and grunts and tries to grab it so clearly he is telling me he is ready.
Please tell me how you made the tranistion and what food you feed your LO. I need some help!
Re: I really don't know what to feed my 10 month old. Please help me.
Some of the solid foods DS is eating:
cheerios, multigrain crackers, fruit & cream oatmeal, yogurt, cheese, pasta, bananas, peaches, pears, toast, pancakes, blueberry muffins, sweet potatoes, shredded chicken, ground beef
All of which I cut into tiny pieces for him b/c I am still terrified that he is going to choke!
Our DS's are about the same age. I just started working in "real food" into his diet. AND my DS has no teeth yet. Babies mash up the food with their gums. If you have every let your LO gum your finger, you'll see that his gums are pretty hard.
I feed DS almost all softer table foods -- our pedi said that he can pretty much eat everything, provided that those things are cut up/stredded into pieces no larger than DS's thumbnail.
Yes, I am scared of him choking, but I give him very small pieces and I monitor how many pieces he puts in his mouth. If you watch him, your DS should be ok. My DS has already gotten a lot better at chewing in the past 2-3 weeks.
GL!
DS is starting to eat everything that we eat. Here are some ideas of what he usually eats. I am starting to feed him whatever I have cooked.
Breakfast: waffles, pancakes, fruit - banana, strawberry, cantaloupe, apple, pears, peaches, etc. yogurt, oatmeal, grits w/ or w/o cheese, toast, toast w/ fruit purees, toast w/ cheese, toast w/ grated apple, oatmeal w/ grated apple & cinnamon.
Lunch: I usually do at least one of the following...pasta, rice, potato & then fresh steamed veggies - broccoli, carrots, peas, green beans, sweet potatoes, squash, etc. Beans. Sometimes meats - ground beef, chicken - shredded into small pieces.
Snack: Crackers, fruit, cheese, cheerios, puffs, etc.
Dinner: Same as lunch.
DS's favorite meals are chicken quesadillas, cheddar broc. rice, toast w/ grated apple, & baked cubed sweet potatoes.
Hold your breath and watch him carefully. Being worried about choking is normal but you have to keep calm and let him at the food because the time has come lol. As long as you watch carefully you will be fine, small pieces to start and the teeth don't matter at all.
DD has been on finger/table foods since she was about 7 months. She went from stage 2 to normal food. She had a little stage 3 and then just kinda skipped it. She eats spaghetti with beef or chicken, any kind of fruit, cheerios, toast, cottage cheese, yogurt and applesauce (when I can sneak the spoon in) cheese, frozen meatballs, pieces of hamburger, cut up cooked sweet potatoes, green beans, carrots, peas, corn on the cob (keeps her busy lol) salmon and anything else we eat that I can't think of. We avoid the peanut stuff, eggs and honey. And whatever else that is a no-no at this age for allergy reasons. Go for it and try not to worry too much. DD still gags occasionally but she gets it right back out with a lil pat on the back and is perfectly fine.
Some mushy things that you could do....baked diced apples, pears, sweet pots, red pots, peeled peppers, carrots. I dice them up and put them in a foil packet. When we first started these (maybe at 7-8 months) I cooked them longer.
He also started with alot of freeze dried fruit.....it pretty much melts in your mouth. I like the apple/pear from Costco. And the bananas, mango and mangosteen from Trader Joe's. Now he still eats these as his snacks.
DS's favorites are any fruits, especially bananas and blueberies. He still is not fond of raw apples and pears though. He loves the diced sweet pots or baked sweet potato fries. He does not like plain pasta, but will eat ravioli. He does not really like meat....unless it comes off of Daddy's plate. Actually, he will eat almost anything that comes off of Daddy's plate!
The only thing I can get him to let me feed him with a spoon is yogurt.
I am not worried about choking. I am always right there. Occasionally he will gag if he doesn't like the texture of something, but he just spits it out.
