Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Is anyone done with having kids?

I constantly see "2 under 2" or "no. 2 on the way" and although it is exciting I feel we may be done.

It was hard to conceive and my pg was even harder. We always thought to have 2 kids 2 years apart but due to our problems we should start thinking now and honestly we're not ready. At the same time we are not sure if we really want another one. We are already missing so much of dd bc of the crazy hours we work.

Do any of you is done having kids? Why? And I also believe economic reasons are valid since paying daycare and/or a nanny for 2 can easily deplete your accounts.

TIA

Re: Is anyone done with having kids?

  • It took us 2 1/2 years and about $25,000+  to get just one, so unless I have a miracle, I'm sadly done.  I would do it all again, but money and the pain of month after month of BFN is more than my DH is willing to go through again.

  • We're not done, but we are in NO hurry.  The main reason we would like another is because DD could easily suffocate from the amount of attention she gets.  There are 7 adults who are pretty much obsessed with her (us, both sets of grandparents and an aunt).  I'd like to spread the love around a little:) But it is tempting to just have one when we think about the time and money that goes into raising her the way we would like.
  • My DH would love to be done. Similar to you- always thought we would have 2 but I had some trouble conceiving and was on bedrest for preterm labor for 10 weeks- it was very difficult.  I would love to have another, but can't imagine going through all that again and DH really can't imagine it.  I would LOVE to adopt a second, but DH doesn't want to.  He also worries about paying for college, other money reasons- but those don't bother me as much.  We are just going to enjoy DS for now and not even think about it or worry about it for at least another year or so.
  • We have a 9yr old boy and G is 5 months my pregnancy was awful (bed rest for 14 weeks) we are done
  • We *might* be done. I had a pretty scary experience with pp hemorrhaging. DH says absolutely no more kids after what happened to me. Maybe in a couple of years we will be able to put it out of our minds and ttc then. For now we are happy with just us and our little man.
  • I'm hoping to be done.  If we do have another it won't be for 5 years or so.  We'll see in a few...
  • Before I had dc I thought I wanted lots of kids, but after experiencing the reality of my pregnancy I am pretty sure we are not. I had hyperemesis and was on bed rest until 22 weeks and had a cathater in my leg the whole time...so probably not. Glad to know I am not the only one thinking about this...sometimes I feel guilty for not wanting to have more.
  • We are 90% sure we are done. I love being able to give all my time & attention to DD. Plus my MIL who waches DD 1 day per week while I work wouldn't be able to watch 2 kids...so that means I'd have to quit my part-time job. That would = major money problems. I'm sure as she grows up I'll get baby fever again but by then I'm pretty sure DH will not agree to another. (He's 32 and doesn't want to be much older if we have anymore).
  • I think we are done - but we have 2. We have a boy and a girl, I will be 34 next month, we both work FT, and daycare is very expensive. Plus, it is so hard to have 2 I can't imagine having 3. As much as I love being pregnant and having babies, it is not easy to raise them (if you want to do it wel!) and I think we should quit while we are ahead!!
