Cervix = 2.9 cm. Is that decent or worrisome?

In the past it's always been at least 3.5 cm. ?Mostly around 4 cm. ?Once it was even close to 5 cm. ?I had a single really strong, painful contraction last week, but it was just the one, and nothing since then. ?

My peri said that while it was shorter, she wasn't worried, and she didn't schedule me to come back to see her for another four weeks, which makes me kind of nervous. ?Of course, I'll see my OB before then, but still. ?

Anything that starts with a 2 makes me nervous, but am I worried about nothing??

  • I don't know but I hope it's fine.

It's very close to three so I'd try not to be worried especially since your doc isn't either.

    *fingers crossed*

  • I was told that my ob doesn't worry unless it's less than 2.5.  Mine was 3 cm at 21 weeks, but that was the last time they checked.
  • Above 3 is optimal but my dr. didn't become concerned until 2.5cm. However you will want to be careful and watch for any symptoms of PTL. On a Tuesday my cervix was 3.1cm then on Friday night I had brown spotting. Went to L&D that Saturday and it was at 2.1cm.

  • My doc did not get concerned until mine dropped below 2.5

Amazingly enough, mine would go down and then up again. ?Be sure to take it easy as much as you can and speak up if you are concerned at all.?

  • Oddly, cervix length changes. My peri's u/s tech usually measures three or four times and they take an average. They told me that it changes, usually lengthens and then shortens a little, all throughout the day, multiple times. It's possible they got a short measurement and your doc knows that - so it may be getting longer then going back to 2.9... sounds like being mindful but not worried would be the way to go. :)
