This is kind of random, and may be a bit of a downer... but is anyone else scared of the huge responsibility that comes with being a parent? Maybe it's just because I work at a law firm where the majority of work done is criminal defense, or because of the latest story, the "Craigslist killer," but sometimes I worry about how to best socialize and educate my child in order to help him develop into a happy (or at least well-adjusted) man. Is anyone else scared of this? It especially scares me when people who seem to have it all - like the craigslist killer (med school, fiancee, etc.) - lead double lives that surprise even their closest friends. And of course, after a terrible crime is comitted, the reporters always mention the family in there - either to say that the criminal lacked a stable one, or that they are surprised/shocked that their kid could have done this. Just something to ponder. Sorry, didn't mean to put a downer on anyone's day!
Re: scary (interesting to ponder)
I don't know that people like that are a product of their environment. Or, if it is environment and not mental then their environment must have been totally messed up. The actions are just not normal and most people, regardless of upbringing, know the difference between right and wrong. Especially at that level. I don't think it's really something you need to worry about. Just do your best and I'm sure your baby will grow into a well adjusted adult.
I worry about this as well...the decisions we make, can potentially mold our children into great socialites or crazies...
