SPF 30 - is this enough for DS?

I just bought DS some California Baby SPF 30 sunscreen for every day use of playing outside, etc. I love this stuff (smells great, all natural, waterproof) but a few of my family members have commented that maybe 30 SPF is not strong enough. I want to make sure I protect DS' very light skin as best as I can from the sun and Im not sure what to think. Anyone have any insight for me on this? Thanks :-)

  • I've used Coppertone Water Babies spf 50, but once that bottle is done I'm thinking of getting either the Neutrogena or Aveno spf 70.  DS has my super light skin also and he still got a little pink over the weekend even though I kept re-applying every couple of hours.  hth!

  • I have been putting the Coopertone Water Babies SPF50 on my DS and haven't had a problem.

  • DD has super sensitive skin and the pedi told us the higher the spf, the more likely she will breakout because of it. The pedi told me that 30 should be fine as long as I reapply it.
  • The number on the bottle actually refers to the length of time it will provide protection... if your skin would normally burn in 10 minutes, SPF 30 will provide 300 minutes of coverage. So, unless you are going to be outside  for more than 5 hours straight, in reality 30 should be fine.
  • I use Coppertone Water Babies spf 50 and make sure I apply it every few hours plus my girls always have on hats with big rims.  Make sure to get the ears and eyelids covered too.
