Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Ugh! She has started smacking my face when we play!

This started a couple of days ago when she learned how to hide my eyes when we play peek-a-boo.  Now I pick her up to play with her (ie sing, talk, snuggle, etc) she will smack my face with her hand......she isn't mad just playing.  I have started telling her no and taking her hand and putting it down to her side.  Tonight after a couple of times and me having enough of it I told her no and removed her from my lap.

Any other moms have trouble with this? Any ideas?

  • DD thinks it's funny too. I just say "we don't hit, that's not nice, be gentle please" and either show her gentle or put her hand down.

I figure there's not a whole lot to do except being consistent and one day it will stick?

Mine does this. Its probably because every time he does it I scream or make a noise or say "owww!"

I need to learn self restraint. He almost broke my nose this morning, though. THAT was hard to not make a noise about!

  • Yes! DS has been doing this for months now and I've tried EVERYTHING. Saying no and moving his hand, saying no then ignoring, redirecting, ignoring all together. ?I don't know where he picked it up but I can't get him to stop. ?Wish I was more help! ?:)
  • im going through this now....it's hard to tell him no because when he is doing it he's all giggly and smiley....

i'd like to hear some ideas too

  • when DS gets really excited, he wails at my face.  i've tried doing what you're doing (moving his hand, saying, "no, that hurts mommy," etc.) but i'm not having any luck either -- he just laughs at me and does it again.

i'm starting to think that until DS can understand what i'm saying he's just gonna keep doing it -- he's getting a reaction from me, and i'm pretty sure that's all he wants...

    it is sooooo frustrating, though.....

  • hit her back! duh!!

nah, seriously, dd gets excited when i get her out of her crib and she whacks me over and over again. i just pull her hands down.
