Is it normal for baby to shake his/her head?

My DS has recently started shaking his head from left to right as if he's saying "no." He does it only when his head is resting up against something like his high chair or car seat. I've also noticed that he does it towards the end of a meal and when he's getting tired. Does anyone else's LO do this?

Yes it's completely normal. They like the feeling of it. My two do it all the time...they are starting to learn that it means no, so I'm not sure if I like that or not!

YES! ?My DS does this when he is in his crib about to fall asleep. ?Actually he doesn't do it as much as he used to, but it was all the time.

The only time it looks like he's playing is after nursing...sometimes when I'm still holding him, he'll arch his back to try to turn over and he'll end up on his head and he rubs his head on the bed/couch/whatever.

DD started shaking her head around 5 months when she was laying down or in her high chair. She was more or less rubbing her head against something. Now, she shakes her head no when she's done eating or sick something & ready to move on. We're working on "yes"!!!! She doesn't go for that though.

he did this exactly, now its a game he plays with us.

ditto, this is a game for us now too. I shake my head no then he does it. he loves it, and it is normal. He also does it when he is getting sleepy.

DD used to do this all the time and it worried me a bit too.

It's been replaced with competitive food spitting.

Yep, my DS does the same exact thing. I think he likes the feel of the high chair. He'll also shake his head at other times too, but it started in the high chair.

My DD does this but also shakes her head yes. Sometimes she'll be jabbering away to herself and start nodding like she's agreeing with herself. Too cute.

My DS does this in his high chair, stroller, sometimes his car seat. I always thought it was pretty funny.
