Anxious for u/s!!

Hi Ladies,

I've been reading all of your posts and decided it's time for me to make my own. :)

This is my first pregnancy (6 weeks today).  I noticed some of you have already had ultrasounds.  My 1st appointment is scheduled for 6/1 and I'm not even sure my doctor will do one then (per the medical assistant).  I know I'll be able to hear the heartbeat with the use of a doppler but I don't know that I will get to "see" what's going on.

I guess I'm just really anxious because I want to know that everything is okay... I guess if I'm feeling okay (outside of the "usual symptoms") I should just practice patience, huh?  That's easier said than done though. :)

Advice?

  • why so long until your first visit?

  • I'm in the same boat as you since I'm a low risk pregnancy. Be grateful...the girls who have early u/s usually have complications. I don't have my 1st u/s until May 7th!?
  • yes it will seem like a long time, but hang in there.  no need to see you so early is usually a good sign.  most people with early u/s are due to high risk pregnancies, history of m/c  and various other reasons.

If you are curious when you will get your first u/s though, just call your dr.'s office... they should be able to tell you when they usually do them.

  • i'm going for the u/s on tuesday! i'm so excited. it seemed like it would never come but now it's almost here. i just want to see my baby now! but i guess you just need to be patient alhtough i know firsthand it's not easy. my friend got one at 6wks. just because, not for any concerns. not fair, but that's life i guess.

  • I think I will do just that (ask my doctor).  Maybe I can even request that one be done when I go on June 1st (if she doesn't already do it).

And you raise a good point.  I hadn't thought about the fact that I am having one later is probably a "good" thing. :)

  • With my doctor's office it tends to be the "norm"... the norm being your first visit happens between 9 and 11 weeks... If I can't take the wait any longer, I may bump up my appointment a week.  I was trying to make sure I allowed enough time for the doppler to be able to pick up the heartbeat...
  • You too?? :)  Okay... well that makes me feel better... I was beginning to wonder. Lol.
  • Sorry for my "out of order" posts ladies... I'm still figuring everything out. :)
