Failed Induction??

Did any of you have a failed induction?  If so, what was the outcome?

I ask because I went in on Monday for an induction and it didn't work.  I have a scheduled c-section for Friday, but I'm just not sure if this is smart to go through or try to wait it out.  I was due April 19th.

Re: Failed Induction??

  • I ended up with a c-section after 2 and half days.?

  • I don't know if it counts as failed.  I was induced first with a dose of Cervadil that didn't soften the cervix enough, so they followed it up with 2 doses of Cytodex (?).  I had contractions for 36 hours, but I never dilated past 4 cm.  Eventually, I had to have an emergency c-section because of fetal distress.

But my baby is healthy and happy, and the c/s wasn't as bad as I was afraid of.

This is what happened to me.  Cervadil didn't do anything.  I was still closed by morning.  2 doses of Cytodex and I managed to get 1 cm.  He sent me home to wait it out for a few days.  I go in tomorrow to see the OB, but I've also had contractions at home on and off all day.

  • i had the cervadil/pit going for more than 24 hrs before we had made any real progress. then came the puching and found that ds's head was up too far so he couldnt get through the canal, and ended up with c/s. now i think if i had known i would have just scheduled a c/s instead :(

i also dont think the c/s was as bad as i thought, my dr was talking to me the whole time and i didnt even know that they had started cutting and we were already 1/2 way through! then i thought she should stop chatting and pay attention to my belly!!

  • I was induced but only made it to 4 cm.  After 17 hours, my blood pressure started dropping dangerously low and they did an emergency c-section.  I've had a really rough recovery, so I'm biased, but I'd probably wait a little bit longer before doing a c-section.
  • I also had a c-section after a failed induction, which was what I thought the end of the world, but It was a piece of cake! It was over before I knew it and I was able to hold and bond with my baby as soon as I was stiched up (which also did not take very long) I also recovered very quickly. I would do it all again a million times - maybe I just got very lucky...

  • I ended up with a c-section after being induced for 24 hours, then going home for 2 days, then back to the hospital for another 24 hours, and then finally gave into the c-section.  It was so not what I wanted at the time, but looking back it wasn't that bad at all.  I never even got to 2 cm, so I finally realized that my body was not going to deliver the baby vaginally.  Oh well!  She was healthy and my recovery wasn't that bad so it was worth it.
  • I was induced on a Monday early afternoon b/c overdue and the sonogram showed low level of amniotic fluid.  Started with cervadil, which did nothing.  Said my cervix was "a nub." Did a day of pit, which also did nothing.  Tried some drug that is actually for ulcers but causes contractions - nada.  Tried breaking my water and had no luck.  So they upped the pit but still only at 2cm.  Got to where I cried uncle, got an epi on Wednesday late afternoon, then water broke on its own that evening (tons of amniotic fluid BTW) and I suddenly went to 7cm and DD was born with forceps the next morning.
