JD is dairy/soy intolerant and his gastroenterologist tells us to switch him to Neocate One+ when he is 12 months instead of whole milk. We can't try him on dairy/soy until he's 18 months.
One case is $80.00 and will make 15 bottles that are 6.5 oz each... I think. There are 15 packets per case and the instructions on each packet say to mix with 6.5 oz of water. If he gets just (3) 6.5 oz bottles per day it will cost us $480.00 per month! That's more than my car payment! And here I was thinking that $280.00 for the normal Neocate formula was bad.
I'm really stressing here. I've already called our insurance company and they don't cover it. I think I'm going to call them back tomorrow and bug them some more about it. We're going to go broke!
Re: Help! How many oz of milk does your 12-18 month old drink per day?
Honestly, I'd just stick with the formula until 18 months. For most formulas, the 1+ variety has slightly more calcium and slightly fewer calories but it typically won't hurt them to stay on the formula. I'd talk to your regular pedi about it and about the cost difference. Maybe your gastro threw out the recommendation since that's typically what comes next, but he doesn't understand the cost difference.
And to answer your question, ds drinks 24-30 oz of milk per day. We're going to have to cut him back a little though because I think it's negatively affecting his solids intake. Our pedi recommends 18-24 oz milk daily.

Hmmm... I don't know! JD also has slow weight gain so I was assuming the One+ had a higher fat content and that's why we were being told to switch but I just looked at the nutritional content and the infant formula actually has higher fat! I'll call gastro back tomorrow and see if he's OK with this option.
Thanks.... you guys are life savers! I might just be able to sleep tonight!
Pedi said no less than 8 and no more than 24
ds gets between 12-18
My daughter drinks anywhere from 2-6oz of milk. She has a milk protein allergy and is on Soy. She jsut isn't a huge milk drinker and no matter what we do she won't drink more. She is going on calcium chews once she getters her molars and we just try to do calcium rich foods to help.
I would try Rice Milk or how about Pediasure? It is dairy and soy free (we can't use it because it has the milk protein added in which is what my daughter is allergic too).
What kind of formula are you using now? My son was on Alimentum because he had an allergy to cow's milk protein as an infant, but by the time he turned one, he had outgrown it. We knew this because, per my pedi, we tried cheese and yogurt at 9 months and it went over well, so we then tried whole milk right before he turned a year and he did fine with it.
A friend of mine has a son who had a severe allergy to milk and soy as an infant, so her pediatric gastro dr. recommended rice milk at a year old, which he did fine with. Eventually he outgrew the soy allergy and now drinks soy.
To answer your question, the number of oz of milk DS drank between 12 and 18 months gradually decreased because his appetite slowed down over the second year. At 12 months he was drinking 24 oz a day, he now drinks 14-16 oz a day.
DD drinks 16-18 ounces of (soy) milk.
Your insurance really should cover that!
My daughter is underweight so the doctor put her on Pediasure, she drinks 20oz a day. My insurance actually covers it and we get a delivery of it once a month.
