Trying to Get Pregnant

bleeding gums?

i haven't ever had it before but i did last night when i brushed. note: i've also been a major symptom spotter this cycle. i read something the other day about pg women getting this (even really early) because of the extra blood flow.

i don't want to hear "you're probably pregnant" i just want to know if anyone else (pg or not) has had this around the time you expect af?

  • brushing too hard maybe?

    I've never had it.

  • I am a freak about dental hygiene and I had it one month too.  You probably just got a little abrasion or something.

That's good.. like they said before maybe you brushed too hard or had a little burn or something from too-hot food that got irritated when you brushed, or a little something trapped under the gum that irritated it.  Happens sometimes.

  • My dentist said there is something called pregnancy gingervitus (spelling?).  I don't know if he was teasing me or if he was being truthful.  Supposed to make the gums bleed easier.

This is a real occurence.  It's due to the elevated hormones while pg.  Women who are pg should be sure to keep up with dental cleanings due to this, and to prevent any gum infections from developing.

Hee hee!  I had a long lunch, so came home for a while.  Thought I'd pop in and give my .02.

  • I have heard about pg women having more issues with their teeth/gums.  The only time my gums bleed is if I go too long without flossing, lol!

  • Daughter of a dentist here too... and I can't help it, I'm snickering a little at "gingervitus".  :)

    Gingivitis  :)

  • I haven't before AF and have never been pregnant but when I switched from the shot to the pill several years ago, my gums were bleeding like crazy when I'd brush and floss and I have excellent oral hygiene. I figured it was from the hormones and a trip to the dentist confirmed. ALSO, when my friend was TTC, she was at the dentist for a cleaning and told the dental hygienist they were trying so she would know for the xrays. When the dental hyg. started cleaning her teeth she smiled and said "You're pregnant!" she could tell because her gums were bleeding and normally didn't. My friend went home and took a test and sure enough, she was.
