Support groups for pregnant women who suffer from depression

Does anyone know of any support groups in the Boston area for women who suffer from depression and have chosen to go off the medications during pregnancy? If not, I would love to start one, let me know if you are interested!

Re: Support groups for pregnant women who suffer from depression

  • I don't know of any groups, and I'm not pregnant, but my big fear in becoming pregnant is having to go off medication and then the sleep deprivation that comes with being a new mom.  If you hear of any groups or decide to start one I'd like to learn more about your thoughts/experiences.

  • I'd be interested as well. Not pg yet, but going to start ttc in a few months. I'm probably going off my medication in May so its out of my system when we start ttc. A support system for this kind of thing would be great! Let me know if you find one/start one.

  • I actually never experienced depression until I was 22 weeks pregnant and then it hit me like a bomb. It was really awful. I've experienced anxiety in the past, but this was 100x worse than any anxiety I've ever had before and the depression on top of it.

I've actually had to start taking meds during this pregnancy (zoloft). And I'm in therapy too. No one, and I searched and searched, has any outreach groups for pregnant women..it's all focused on postpartum depression.

But I would be very interested in someone does start something. It's a very scary and isolating thing to go through...especially since pregnancy is supopsed to be such a wonderful time. My experience has been the worst.

  • I would like to start a local group in the Boston area for women who already are pregnant or are thinking about getting pregnant and who suffer from depression. I have decided to go off of my meds when I was TTC and am currently 9 weeks pregnant and starting to feel  some of my old symptoms creeping up on me. I think it would be very helpful to connect with other women who are going through a similar experience to share stories, support, helpful advice, etc.

I have never started a group like this and wouldn't even know the first thing about how to. For example, where should we meet? If anyone is interested in helping me brainstorm idea on how to get this group off the ground, I would more than appreciate then help! Contact me at JoAsia1431@aol.com.

In the meantime, I will do some investigating on scoping out some places to meet.

I look forward to talking with all of you and getting through this time together. It is supposed to be a very joyous experience but when you suffer from depression and anxeity, it can take on a whole new meaning.

Ditto this.  We're lucky that we live in an area that has resources like this.
