Babies on the Brain

Etiquette ?

I have to go to a funeral/visitation tomorrow night for a dear friend. Funeral is almost 2 hours away so DH and I are going to leave work a little early to go. There is no way we can stay the entire time and go back to the house afterwards with the family because that would put us home too late with the long drive home.

Should we still take food and send it home with someone else/or drop it off at home or just wait and try to go back down next weekend and take the widow (who is also our friend) something then?

I'm not thinking clearly today and can not seem to get everything together in my head on what I need/want to do.

Re: Etiquette ?

  • I might be wrong about this, since I am Jewish and we sit shiva instead of having a set calling time.  However, I think that I would send something that can be delivered (catering, maybe?) or go down next weekend.

I just would hate to have your "gift" be lost in the shuffle.

The past two shiva calls that I attended, people who couldn't made it had food delivered with catering companies.

  • If you're sure you are going to be able to go next weekend, I would take something down then. Otherwise, could you drop it off prior to the visitation?

  • I agree with possibly having something delivered sometime this week.

  • Since you are going next weekend - take food then. Odds are they will be plenty of food the next few days. After the first week or so the help tends to disappear and I am sure your friend would appreciate effort just as much if not more if you take it next weekend. I just went through this with some close friends myself.
  • Hmmm..catering company might be a good idea. I've never thought about that because I always MAKE something for bereavement. An edible arrangement would be too tacky for a death huh?

I'll talk to DH. I'm pretty sure we are going to go back down next weekend because another of our friends that lives practically next door had a baby and we need to go visit.

    Thanks ladies.

I think an Edible Arrangement would be fine.

Do this/this is a good idea. She'll like the idea of having a visitor next weekend. Friends are soo important in times like this.
