Babies: 0 - 3 Months

How long did baby wear 0-3?

I only have about 10 outfits for 0-3. I have about 12 newborn onesies/outfits. Should I get more stuff, or will this last the first three months?

Thanks in advance!

Re: How long did baby wear 0-3?

  • I'm trying to remember back to that stage....it's all pretty fuzzy...

I think that should be enough, at least at first. I remembering wondering if I needed more clothes, but I ended up doing laundry almost every day because the baby was constantly spitting up unbelievable amounts of formula all over me (reflux), so we probably could have gotten away with 5 outfits!

Worse comes to worse you can always run out and get more later :)

  • That's about how many I had maybe a little less NB and that worked for us. DS was in NB and 0-3 up to 2 months old. There were a few 0-3 that fit longer since he's tall but skinny and I finally had to put them all away about 3 weeks ago. FWIW, DS was 7lb 10oz at birth and 50 percentile weight-wise.

  • It's going to depend on how big your LO is at birth. My DD was 7lbs 1oz, and she was in the newborn stuff for almost 2 months. She is now almost 5 months, and still in the 3 month size (some 0-3 doesn't fit), but we are getting ready to move up to the 3-6.

Also, it will depend on how much you want to do laundry and if you are actually going to dress your LO up everyday. For us, most of the days, DD is just in a onesie. If we're going out, I'll put some pants on her and on special occasions, I'll put one of her outfits. I wouldn't buy anything more until your LO is born. Depending on the birth weight, you might have plenty or you might need more. I went a little crazy and bought a bunch of newborn stuff I thought was cute and a lot of it she didn't even wear!

  • My son was pretty small (6lbs.5oz.) and wore NB for about a month and a half. I mostly had him in sleepers all the time since that was the most comfortable option. He then wore 0-3 until he was just over 3 months. I think that as long as the outfits you have are soft and comfy ones (not dressy or jeans), you will have enough. Just be aware that you will probably go through several a day because of diaper/ spit up accidents. Good luck.
  • By outfits, I primarily meant onesies/sleep & plays. It will be hot here, so I doubt I'll get her all dressed up everyday.

I'll take PP advice and wait to see how big she is, but hopefully won't have to buy much more.

Thanks again! I feel clueless, although I have a 4 year old... I can't remember ANYTHING from the early months. lol. It's a blur.

  • Have you had your shower yet? If not, then don't get more! Even if you have, you might want to wait because people brought us even more clothing gifts after DD was born.

*she's still wearing some of her 0-3 onsies. ?

  • Keagan didn't even fit into his NB stuff he was so big.  He is almost two months now and I have to start washing the 3 - 6 mo stuff because he is quickly outgrowing the 0 - 3 outfits.
  • DS was 7 11.3 at birth and still cant fit most of his 0-3 outfits. With the exeption of 2-3 sleepers. He is still wearing the newborn size at the moment. His weight gain was pretty slow in the beginning, so I anticipate he'll fit all the 0-3 pretty soon now. I'm hoping he can wear those until at least June, because all 3-6 clothes I bought are summer clothes, and it doesnt start getting hot here until at least June. lol

I'd say you'll be fine with what you haev. Like PP said, you do A LOT of laundry so they will get washed frequently. Plus, you can always grab one or two more outfits if you feel like you dont have enough after he's born.

  • DS was 6 pounds 15 ounces, 20 inches at birth.  He was in NB for about a week and a half and today, at 4 weeks, he is nearing 10 pounds and I think we will be out of 0-3 months within the next two weeks.  He has grown a ton since birth!

  • DS was 7 lb 13 oz at birth.  He wore NB for a month and 0-3 for a month.  The first couple of months we really didn't go out much and he was just swaddled more of the time.  Also, people will buy you clothes after your baby is born.  We got so much as gifts and I had to keep on putting outfits on him so he could wear them at least once.

  • It depends on how big your baby is. My ds was 10.2 lbs and he was only in 0-3 months for a few weeks. (now he is in 9-12 months..lol) Didnt wear half the stuff he had. On the other hand, I have a friend who had her baby early and he is the same age as mine and is just now getting into 3-6 months.

  • Our DD was 9.7 at birth. We had to switch to 6 month size about 1-1.5 ago, she will be 11 weeks old Thursday. I found we got clothes after my shower and even after she was born. I agree that you can run out after your LO is here if you need more.?
