::: hangs head in shame ::: 30 day shred...

Edit:  I just read the other 30 day shred post on here.  D'oh!  Sorry.  I guess my ? is "Why is the 30 day shred better / different than all the other dvds out there?"

So last week I started wearing a pedometer because I'm supposed to "gradually ease back into physical activity by walking at least 6000 steps a day and ideally 10,000."  I'm clocking in 10,000 steps a day just chasing after my kid and going about my day to day routine which is an odd combo of sucks and nice...

Anyhow, I'm not overweight so much as hideously out of shape.  I'm thinking I'll break out the jogging stroller and try to start running again now that the weather is getting nicer but that still leaves strength training. I'm reluctant to shell out for a gym membership and find it difficult to get the "quiet time" that yoga requires since DD naps so sporadically...

I can't help but notice every second Nestie seems to be on the "30 day shred."  So it's that chick from The Biggest Loser who looks like she could bench a lot of the "before" contestants yelling at / encouraging you to do circuit training with light weights for 25 minutes, right?  And there's like an easy, medium, and hard level?  Fair enough...

But what's makes this particular workout DVD so popular?  Is it especially cool and motivational?  Does it have some especially kicka$$ series of moves?  Is it really called "30 Day Shred: Brought to You by The Nest's Parent Corporation?' Or what?  Thoughts?  How has it worked for you?

  • I could barely walk when I first started doing it. Not joking. I noticed that my pants were loose after three days. I did not continue after ten days because DD got sick and I fell off the bandwagon, but I definitely noticed a difference in a short time. She kicks your as$. I am going to start it again, I just need to get motivated.?
  • And I am BFing and didn't have any issues with it.?
  • Do you have cable? I saw yesterday that someone had posted about it being free on demand...and sure enough...it was! So you should check there first:) Then you can decide if you're into enough to actually purchase it.

I haven't figured out yet if the free version is all of the levels or not...but it's got to be worth a shot!

  • It is good you are starting out slow with working out.  I had my stupid broken toe and when that healed I started jogging.  I did not take it easy and now I have a heel injury.  I am getting deep tissue massages to heal it.

I ordered the 30 Day Shred today.  It had 999 reviews on Amazon and 4.5 stars.  Hopefully when I am back to normal soon so I can use it.

  • I like it b/c

its only 20 minutes but still effective

it was only $8.99 and eligible for free super saving on amazon.

  • You can also check it out on Youtube to see if it is for you or not.

  • I do the shred 5-6 times a week, and I lost 8lbs in my first 30 days.I can also see my body starting to get toned. Not like I'm on steroids toned, but you can see muscle building up. I think I like it because number one, it's a short but very effective workout. I dont think Jillian says much that is like OMG wow motivational, but I think that because it's a tough workout you just feel good about yourself once you finish it.

  • It's 20 minutes long.  And hard!  That's why I want to do it.I don't have time for 1 hour videos anymore.
  • I've always been in shape and just wanted to tighten up and get back into a solid workout routine.  This workout kicks.my.a$$!  After doing it 4-5 days/week for 2 months I've lost 4 inches and am now in jeans I wore as a sophomore in college!

I think Jillian is especially motiviating and the fact that it's only 20 mintues is AWESOME since I can do it during DD's naps.  I can't really compare it to any other workout dvd since I *used* to be more of a swimmer/gym-goer before dd and never did any, but I like this one!  And I'm nursing, no issues.

  • Glad to hear that about the nursing. I was just nervous to burn too many calories, you know? I think I have the extra to burn though....25 pounds of them...

  • I saw it on OnDemand, and it's only there until tomorrow (at least the first DVD is).

  • Hi! Chiming in a little late, but I just wanted to give two cents on my fav. topic (I am getting my personal trainer cert. soon).

Other than the 10000 steps do you exercise currently?  I don't think there's a beginner version, but I could be wrong.  I would start traditional cardio/weight training first.  If you lose weight within a few days, it's most likely water weight.

Have you heard of CrossFit?  You should check out their website.  They have workouts of the day, but read their "about" section first.  CrossFit rocks.
