Throwing up formula

My two week old has been throwing up her formula. Its not at every feeding its like half the time she will keep it down. When she throws it up though she throws it all up! I feel so awful when she does and I dont know what to do. She is drinking Similac Advance. Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions??? I am going to call the pedi and see what he says but didnt knwo if anyone had dealt with this before.

Thanks!

Re: Throwing up formula

  • Do you burp her often throughout the bottle. This really helped our ds. It also I think helped him figure out when he was full, instead of taking it too fast and taking too much.?

  • We do stop often to burp her. Thats what my DH had said though not to worry its just that she is drinking too much too fast. I am going to try to slow her down and see if that helps she really guzzles it and we have to stop her and burp her and try to slow her down more!
  • DD did this for a while. We switched to Enfamil AR Lipil and we burped her every 2 ounces. She does much better now that she is older.
  • What bottles do you use?  I have heard others on hear have problems with certain bottles and found it got better when they switched.
  • When my DS started throwing up after feedings I took him to the Doctor and he had a sinus infection. He had no other symptoms.
  • You may need to have her formula changed to something thats a little more gentle on her stomach. Burp her as often as you possible can, feed her upright and keeping her upright for 30 mins after a feeding might help too (it does with DS). It seems if we lay him down after he eats, then he will lay there and spit up. Also, if you pull back on the bottle while feeding her, she will have to suck harder and she wont take so much air in.

These are all things that work with DS...good luck =)

  • My DS did this a few times and I started burping him after 1 - 1.5 ounces and not any more and for some reason that really seemed to help.  It was harder to burp after that but as long as he gets that first burp in early on he seems to be fine.
