GD Mamas, HELP

What are you eating for breakfast?

I have to eat something at work, so I can't cook eggs etc.  I have been eating breakfast sandwiches on light wheat toast and my sugars are still in teh 150 - 200 range.  I need something else, and it has to be a good breakfast.  HELP

Re: GD Mamas, HELP

  • I cook scrambled eggs with ham and cheese in the evenings and put the meal in the fridge to grab in the morning. I reheat when I get to work for my breakfast (I start work at 7, so I don't eat before I leave the house). I'll usually have a slice of wheat toast with the eggs. Sometimes I'll do turkey sausage, instead of ham.

My other go to is cottage cheese, since I can keep that in the fridge at work. I'll have some cottage cheese with a piece of wheat toast and sometimes a turkey sausage.

I've been on the diet for 5 weeks now, and it's eggs or cottage cheese every morning. I'm getting really tired of them both.

If you like tofu, you could try that, as well. Or maybe peanut butter on a half an english muffin.

  • For now, my usual pre-GD breakfast still seems to work within my numbers.  I have 3/4 of a cup of Kashi Heart to Heart cereal with 1/2 cup of milk, but I will say that the nutritionist I met with was sort of surprised that cereal was working for me.  I guess a lot of people have high numbers with cereal, even when they stick to an amount that fits within their carb limits (like I'm doing).

  • Try one slice of toast and some fruit.  I eat cheerios with sliced banana and skim milk or plain oatmeal with milk and splenda.

  • I have Multigrain Cheerios (1 cup) with 1/2 cup of milk, that's 2 carb units.  Sometimes I also toast a piece of wheat bread with cheese on top.
  • Normally I eat an english muffin with egg and cheese - sort of like an egg McMuffin from McDonald's, plus an OJ. But if I don't feel like cooking, I have a carnation instant breakfast, chocolate flavor. Yumm.
  • Jimmy Dean or whoever makes omeletes that you can microwave. I eat those on work days of a egg mcmuffin with only one bun.
  • A piece of whole grain toast with peanut butter or a corn tortilla w/ a veggie sausage (Morningstar Farms is good) and a slice of cheese.
  • I either eat 2 slices of WW toast with bacon or some grits. Both of those do ok for me. I don't eat eggs either.

    I'm sorry, this stuff sucks!

  • whole wheat english muffin with PB works well for me in the am. just boring.
  • Do you have a Trader Joe's or a sort of specialty store near you?  Or maybe you can check your regular store - but I just found already hard-boiled eggs.  I know it sounds kind of gross - but these have been a life saver for me since finding out about my GD.  They taste great - just like a hard boiled egg you'd make at home - except you don't have to do the boiling, peeling and waiting for it to cool!  They come in a bag of about 10 or 12 I think?  I eat one of these plain with a slice of toast or I eat it with some fruit - grapes, strawberries...  They work well for snacks too and make deviled eggs quick and easy! HTH.
