Help!!! Need an obstetrician recommendation near west palm beach

Hello all,

I am a 35 years old and this is my first pregnancy. My family lives out of state and none of my friends have children and I am totally lost on choosing a doctor and hospital to deliver in. I have seen a doctor close to my house (Glenn Collins, MD) and am slightly less than enthused. For delivery I am trying to decide between Wellington Medical and St. Marys medical, both have class 3 NICUs. Can anyone help with a recommendation?

  • I saw Sara Bernstein in Wellington before I moved up to Stuart. She was really nice. I think she delivers at Wellington Medical, her office building was right next to the hospital

  • if you can- stay away from St Marys.   I don't have time right now to tell you all the reasons to, but if you want, leave your email address and I can send you an email.

The short and sweet of it, its yes, St Mary's has a level 3 NICU...odds are that (thankfully) you won't need it.  Level 3 is for severely premature babies ...talking micropreemies and babies with very severe issues.   My girls were born at 34w3d and were only in level 2 for a few days before they moved up to level 1.   St Mary's NICU was amazing...they were great.  St Mary's nursing staff (for you...) is another story.   I had one good nurse...that was it...it was horrible.   Like I said, I can get into it all if you'd like, but my warning is to stay away from St Marys.    If you live in Eastern PBC,  Good Samaratian, while an older hospital, is very good and they go up to level 2...and God Forbid if your baby needed it, they'd be able to transport by ambulance to St Marys NICU.    I had back surgery at Wellington, and I can say it's a nice clean hospital.  I don't know about the maternity area, but I haven't heard complaints from anyone.

Oh, and if you're looking for an OB, stay away from the Dr's at Women's Health Services at OB's of the Palm Beaches or something like that.   Especially Dr. Leroy and...while Dr Kent delivered me, and I'm glad he did, he didn't even remember me when I went back for my 6 wk.     And I think Dr. Leroy missed preterm labor on me....   and I won't forgive him for that.

    good luck.

  • I wanted to just add to something Kimmie said.  My mother worked at Good Samaritan through December 2008 and I think that they were considering shutting down the NICU because their numbers were low throughout the year - and like Kimmie said, they can transport their babies to St. Mary's (which is relatively close).  You may want to check if it is still open if you are considering them.

  • I use Dr. Pliskow  he is a great OB doctor! He delivered Celine Dion's baby at Palms West hospital. He takes all insurances and medicaid. I am 3 months pregnant now and he has been great!  Its:

Advanced Womens Healthcare, Dr. Steven Pliskow

If u have questions let me know!

  • Dr. DeCarvalho at Just for Women's: (561) 881-9650. I don't really like the practice- its poorly run but the doctor is AMAZING.
  • Thanks for all the recommendations ladies---much appreciated!
