1st Trimester

Poll: When did you tell people you were pregnant?

I really wanted to wait till the first trimester was over, but we have started telling people at 6 1/2 weeks.  I get scared that it's too early!

Re: Poll: When did you tell people you were pregnant?

  • i'm realy glad you asked this, i'm curious to hear what everyone has to say. i told my best friend when i found out (which was one day before the 5 week mark) but my husband and i don't want to tell anyone else until at least 8 weeks, maybe longer.
  • Loading the player...
  • well, i couldn't hide it very well, we have a 'girls night' every wednesday.. when i didn't order a margarita.. they knew!! ?We started telling everyone right around 7 weeks, it was early but DH has such a large family, once we told one-everyone knew!
  • Runs the gamut depending on who it is.  My closest friends and family found out around 5-6 weeks, but I didn't tell at work until 11.5 weeks.  There were some people I would want support from if I miscarried, and some I didn't want to know until I was sure it was going to stick!
  • Within three hours of my BFP we told family and close friends.  I was too excited to hold it in and wanted to be able to share the excitement with everyone.

I told my boss after our first appointment at 9 weeks.

  • 4 1/2 weeks, as soon as we had a blood test to confirm. I was told by SO many people I should have waited, but I felt that if something did happen, I wanted a support system. And if everything was ok, at least people close to me weren't wondering why I was so sick and cranky. I was glad I did because I have been really, really sick and my hormones have made me a terror at work.
  • So far we have not told yet. This is our first, so I have no prior experience. I plan on telling after 12 weeks, even though 1st tri ends at 13 weeks, it's close enough.

  • So this was the third time I got ku in 11 months.  I lost the other two.  I was cautious.  We told parents at 6 or 7 weeks.  I told work at 10 weeks.  I am finaly telling all friends now at 11 weeks.  On the other hand, my husband has been telling people since week 4 when we found out.  he was just holding for the best and thinking positive.

  • We haven't told anyone yet but then again we haven't even had our first appt.

We will probably end up telling our parents and siblings soon but then wait to tell others until after we hear the HB.

If something were to go wrong, I would definitely rely on our families to help get us through.

We are just waiting until we see our families to tell them.

  • We told parents/siblings around 4-5 weeks, friends around 7 weeks (some are still finding out), my boss found out around 7-8 weeks and I'm waiting until the first tri is over to make it "public" - ie, talking about it in front of coworkers, acquaintances.

  • I would say it's never too early or too late. Telling people won't make anything happen. I miscarried last November and waited to tell most people until 13 weeks. I miscarried at 13w2d. This time around, we told more people earlier, which I never would have expected. But our support was so great, we wanted to share our news and have extra prayers for our little one! My husband said it best - you only have your first child once. Enjoy it while it lasts and try not to worry so much each day, when we can enjoy all the exciting changes in our life!

Congratulations on your big news! And share it when you're most comfortable.

  • We've already told our families and my two best girlfriends. I was planning on waiting till after I heard a heartbeat at the doctors, but I am a big blabbermouth. Oh well, it is fun! I will tell the rest of my cohort at school (the 17 of us are really tight) after the doctor at 8.5 weeks.
  • Fo DS we told our immediate family the day we found out and everyone else after our first dr's appt at 7 weeks.  This time we didn't tell anyone until after our first dr's appt at 7 weeks because it was unexpected and we needed the time to process the information ourselves.
  • We told our immediate families and close friends as soon as we found out (4w 4d).  We will wait until our first ultrasound on Monday (8 weeks) to tell other people.  There is just no way I could hold out until the 2nd trimester!
  • My Husband and I found out at 6 weeks.  We told our familys right away, this is our first baby and we were just too excited.  Plus his Mom has been waiting for this since we got married 5 years ago.  But we were going to wait until after week 10 to tell everyone else.  Needless to say we went out with a group of our closest friends that night and he had a couple of beers and spilled his guts.  By the end of the night the entire bar/restaraunt knew.  Luckily everything is fine a we have a perfect little person growing inside.
  • We told over Easter.  I wanted to see the hb on the baby before we said anything since that has seemed to be our problem in the past.  Most girls that have had losses wait longer, but since my problem is dx and medicated now, I feel like this baby has a really good shot and I wanted to share the news.  I still haven't told my boss and am waiting until 2nd tri to do that because he is a coggy old doctor and I don't want him hovering lol.

  • I toldmy closest friends and family around 5 weeks. I'm telling everyone else after my 1st appointment in May. I'm not telling my boss until they renew my contract for the next three years. That meeting is also in May, and they would definitely not renew me if they knew I was pregnant... just the kind of place I work at :-/
  • We told our family ar 6 weeks and I told my boss too and 3 co workers. Once we told our family, MIL told all of her family and I didn't mind. My husband is very happy about telling people ad even though there are things that might go wrong, I want to focus on the positive and the fact that I have a baby growing inside me. I know all the hapiness that I'm getting from people, the baby feels too!
  • 6 weeks. Word got around fast I actually only told 3 people.
  • We told our close family immediately, then my two closest girlfriends a week later. We are keeping everyone hush hush until our next U/S at 10 weeks, then we will tell friends, family and my office.

  • We told a select few right away and then started spreading the news to everyone after seeing the heartbeat at 8 weeks (or 7 weeks with this one).

  • We told parents and his brother and my sister. But no one else for awhile. I think they can all keep a secret.
  • We told our parents around 5 weeks, and close friends at 6. There's no way I could have waited until after the first tri! But even now I'm not putting it on facebook or anything... I'll probably way until after my 2nd u/s (11 wks)
  • We just told immediate family at 5 weeks...

Then I had to tell some people at work this week beacuse I am now in bed rest... :o(

  • I told my Mom, DH's parents, and my best friend just before 5 weeks. We're waiting to tell the rest of the family at 10 weeks. We'll tell work around 12 weeks.

  • We're telling our moms on mother's day. We will tell everyone else when I hit 2nd tri.
  • With DD - we told just about close family and friends around 6 weeks.  I have a large family so it spread fast.  I told my boss around 7 weeks, then slowly after the 1st tri I started sharing with others.

With this one - I told my mom/dad/sister the same day we found out which was at about 4.5 weeks.  I didn't share with too many others but my DH told just about EVERYONE.  I told my boss again at 7 weeks.  One other girl knows a work because she is due about the same time.  Once we have our appt tomorrow it will be out for everyone!  I will still probably keep it quite at work for a bit.  Some of the people I work with are very nosiy and don't need them asking questions/making comments - was this planned, OMG  you are nuts for having 2 so close...!

  • We live in FL and our family is up north in MD and PA, so we've only told the people we know down here so far. We go home next week though and will tell our family and friends there in person. I'll be 6 weeks next week, so we aren't waiting until the 2nd trimester hits or anything. I'm like a lot of others where God forbid something happens I want a support system. I also think you should enjoy it as much and as long as you can, and I don't know if anyone else feels the same but its driving me crazy that our family doesn't know yet, so I think I will begin to enjoy it much more when everyone knows next week! :)
  • I told my mom the day we got our positive.  My immediate family all knew by 6 weeks.  I told my close friends at about 8 weeks.  I still haven't told work, but I probably will next week.

  • We've told my mom, and one of my close friends who has been through just about everything with pregnancy so I would have someone who I could talk to.

We won't tell anyone else until 12 weeks, and keeping this secret is killing me . . .

  • I told everyone pretty early with my 1st.  I was too excited.  I had to tell my boss to get a day off for my 1st appt at 6 weeks, who then told others at work whom I knew would gossip so I told the rest.  I told the grandparents after seeing the Doc, so that was around 7 weeks.

This time we are trying to wait till later, not really for any particular reason, but I think I'll tell my mom at least on mothers day and everyone else around 12 wks.  I hope I can keep it contained until then.

  • Haven't told anyone yet. We are waiting until after our 1st appointment around 8 weeks to tell immediate family. We will tell friends/extended family around 12 weeks or so.

  • we told our families as soon as we found out - which turned out to be about 6 weeks.

i still haven't told my job, but will tell my boss on Monday

  • no one can keep a secret... so we will tell everyone around the same time... starting with our families.  Not sure when that will be.  We'll see how far along we are when we go to our appt on Tuesday and go from there.  But with having a 4 month old at home... I'd probably like to wait as long as possible to start telling... to prolong any of the imminent questions and comments that will come with having my babies so close together.

  • I told my DH 2 seconds after I got the BFP. He then called his best friend, and I told my best girl friends at work that day (so approx 4 wks along). And after the weekend, our close friends and families knew. I felt comfortable telling people, only because they are the ones that would support us if anything happened. I plan on telling the rest of the world and work at about 12 weeks (just under 4 weeks away).

  • We told family and close friends at 8 weeks after our first appointment. I will probably tell my boss after my first ultrasound next week.
  • We've told my mom, my sister and my best friend.  No one else till we hear a heartbeat.  My BFF just had a miscarriage two days ago and is dreading untelling everyone, so that just makes me more cautious.

  • We told our parents at 6w and siblings at 8w. I also told a close friend yesterday because i wanted the name of her OB. Not an easy thing to do without admitting your pg. I'm waiting to tell friends, work and extended family until after our u/s to get hb. That should be around 12w. This is our frist baby but I want to wait until we're out of the woods for m/c. It's not easy keeping the secret though! Do what feels right.
