How long in cribs?

I'm having a mini freakout over here! Leo tried to climb out of his crib yesterday. He didn't quite know how to do it, but the intent was there.

How long did it take them to climb out of their cribs once they started trying? How old were your kiddos when you moved them to big kid beds (or converted their cribs to toddler beds)? Did you have to put them in separate rooms? Was it a complete nightmare?

    Mine are 20m now and haven't tried to climb out yet. We put the mattress down as far as it would go- they are 31.5 inches tall and get get their leg or body over the rail.  We aren't going to put them in their big girl beds (the cribs convert to day beds then full beds) until they are at least three. If you don't want to put them in beds, they make these meshy cribs tents that are great!!

    24months here and neither have tried to climb out.  Not very adventurous I guess.  You could try crib tents or convert their beds to toddler beds.  We are going to wait as long as possible on converting.  I hope the tents give you a little more time.

    I can't imagine my kids actually "sleeping" at nap time, or at night if they are both in toddler beds in the same room. It will just be like play time. This is my worst fear. We are keeping them in their cribs as long as possible. I don't want to separate their rooms yet because I like them being together. I think once we convert their cribs to day beds they will have to be in separate rooms so they will actually sleep. My son is very adventurous too. I know he is going to try to climb out soon. Yikes!

    My girls climbed out last week- and they are only like 30ish inches.  Once they figured out how to do it- they were out every nap, every morning early.  It was horrible!  They are no where NEAR ready for toddler beds- it would be an all.night.party!  Anyway, we got the crib tents and they LOVE them!!  I was really worried, but I let them watch me set them up and made a big deal about it and put some new books in their cribs at the same time.  They love them- we plan to keep them in their cribs probably until around 3ish.  I can't imagine having them in toddler beds now, maybe with a singleton it would be okay, but with two, it would be crazy in there :-)

    Oh, and if you think you are going to use the tents- I would order them ahead of time- before they actually figure out the climbing out because we had a rough couple days waiting for them to arrive.
