Vitamin K vaccine at Loudoun?

Is the Vitamin K vaccine required for all newborns at Loudoun? Is it possible to have it given orally instead of in vaccine form?  Thanks!

Re: Vitamin K vaccine at Loudoun?

  • never seen it given orally at loudoun. you can sign a waiver though, make sure your labor nurse knows when you are admitted.

  • Just an FYI its not a vaccine....its just vitamin K. People tend to get uptight about vaccines with their preservative measures, and the metals or yolks used to make them. They give the baby vitamin k, because newborns often have problems with their coaguation cascade (aka what makes you not bleed)  Newborns are also more prone (than the general population) to intraventricular (in the brain) hemorrhage (brain), and giving vitamin K helps prevent this....along with bleeding everywhere else.

But as pp says, if you want to wave it, as with most things, you can.

My husband is constantly telling me to not use medical terms outside the hospital, hence all of the ( )'s above
