When is your first internal exam?

My doctor told me yesterday that they won't do an internal exam to check dilation/cervix until 38-39 weeks. I won't lie, I was relieved they weren't doing it that appointment.

My sister's doc started doing internals earlier, but she can't remember what week they started doing them.

I'm curious to see when other doctors out there are starting to do internal exams during the regular appointments?

I think most start around 36 weeks, many start after that, though. My 39 week appointment is Thursday and I have yet to even hear about having one, though I'll still probably decline if they ask.

mine started at 36 weeks. but at my 37 week since i'd had no contractions they skipped it. they've done it at every visit thereafter though.

Mine were supposed to start at 36 weeks. But then the baby dropped and I had a bunch of other stuff go on, and she did the first one at 33 weeks.

It wasn't the most comfortable thing in the world, but it wasn't that bad either, maybe a 1 or 2 on a 1-10 pain scale.

Cool, so my doctor is pretty much going the normal route. My sister thought I would have one yesterday, and I was dreading it. I could have done a happy backflip when they said they wouldn't be doing it for a while (OK, a backflip would have caused some major harm to myself, the baby, and anyone within probably a 5 foot radius of my flailing body, but you know what I mean).

I had the option of starting them at 36 weeks. They ask me at each appt if I want checked. Each week I get checked and am disappointed at no progress. Next week I am not going to have them check.

I had one last week, because that's when they did the GBS test... I figured that they might as well do it all at once and get it over with- LoL... I don't know if they are going to do them every time now or how that works...

Mine was at 38 weeks. My doctor does them earlier if you are having contractions or complications though.

I had them early because of some PTL and IU issues, but my doctor does them routinely starting with the 36 week appointment.

my first one was today at my [almost] 39 week appointment... i am only 1 cm?dilated... i have one next tuesday as well... if i have progressed to 2-4 cm they will consider inducing me on friday the 24th... my dr. is going to be at a conference the last weekend of the month, so i will be having my baby before he leaves or after he gets back... unless it happens naturally
