Postpardum depression?

Is it possible for a MIL's month-long stay to bring out PPD? I've been so frustrated lately with her hovering and constantly wanting to hold Quinn... Last night she practically jumped at any chance to hold her. She's here to help us, but I feel like she's here to hold the baby all the time. I know it's slightly irrational, but this morning I felt so frustrated and sad that I just wished with all my heart that I could go back and be pregnant with Quinn again so it would be just me and my DH. I am also tearing now at the drop of a hat...??My DH keeps telling me that my MIL is leaving in three weeks, but it just feels like forever...?

It doesn't help that this is the first Easter I'm not celebrating... :( They don't celebrate Easter so no one planned jack. ?

  • What a bummer. Our Easter is pretty low key this year.

I just put a ham in the oven. And we went to church.

I don't think wanting Quinn to go back is PPD, but if MIL is really getting to you, you should probably be mindful of your feelings.

But, having said that, I am still tearing up at what I think are very important things. Yet no one else thinks they are, so it may be the hormones.

    Chin up!

  • Sorry, having company around makes me feel that way too. Hubby is from out of state so we have people staying here all the time and it throws our whole schedule out of whack every time I think I get it down. I hate not being able to completely be myself or do things my own way without feeling judged.

  • That's completely possible....and I'm really sorry : ( Is your husband home during the day? If my MIL came to stay for that long I'd tell my husband he'd better be there during the day to be a buffer--it's his mom. I highly recommend taking an Omega-3 supplement--a good one. My mom started having me take them literally as soon as I had caden--I take them 3x a day. They help with depression--naturally--and are really good for you. And tell your MIL to back off : ( If nothing else, remember that 3 wks will go by really quick and then things will be back to their new normal.

  • I think PPD can set in awhile after you have the baby, but I would be upset if my mother or in laws had been at my house that long and was just wanting to hold the baby. My mom was with us for 3 weeks, and we were ready to handle things on our own before then and ready to have time to ourselves. Maybe you need to have a talk with dh about MIL leaving early for your own sanity.
  • Thanks, guys... It's good to have support. Next year we will definitely celebrate Easter. This is total BS.?

  • It might be PPD.  If you have an OB or pedi appointment anytime soon you could ask about it.

It could also just be straight up stress.  Not getting enough sleep and being stressed out all day long can cause depression all by itself.

  • First of all, congrats on your little girl, she is precious!  I haven't seen you on here since you had her.

We had lots of time with my parents here and DH's parents.  I found it helped to give them other jobs to do.  Ask them to fold laundry, run errands (this is a great one to give you a break!), make the salad for dinner...anything you can think of that needs doing.  If you are BF'ing that is a great excuse to scoop up DD and leave the room with her for at least an hour.  :)

Ask your dr about the pp depression symptoms.  I would guess you are having your 6 week check up soon, and if not call them.

    Good luck with everything.
