I posted earlier that we decided on the name Adelie, [Add - uh - lee] but we are concerned that she'll spend her entire life correcting people on the pronunciation/spelling.
How would you spell Adelie so that it is pronounced Add - uh - lee?
I would spell it like you have it. I wasn't sure how to pronounce it but my first guess was right. My only problem with Adalie is that it looks more like it has a long A sound, A-duh-lee.

I think Adalie would be pronounced correctly the most... Adelie may be pronounced as AY duh lee by some at first glance. Although either one could be pronounced either way, I suppose.
I can't believe no one has pointed this out yet...Adelie are a very common kind of penguin and Adelie penguins are pronounced a-DELI (like a sandwich shop). They are the small, cute ones you typically see in zoos and on tv.
If you spell it Adelie, I think most people will pronounce it like the penguin.
It sounds like you like the sound of Natalie without the N (similar to the recently popular Madeline without the M). If so, I'd spell it Adalie. Personally, I prefer Natalie because the pronunciation is less confusing.
I think this is a SUPER cute name. I went to HS with a girl named Atalie and I definitly prefer that spelling especially if you want it to soundn like Natalie without the N. Great name either way!
Re: Adelie
I agree with this completely. Cute name, very similar to our choice!
She'll be spelling and pronouncing it no matter what - but that's not a big deal! It's nice to have a unique (but not uneeq!) name.
My eye prefers Adalie. With either spelling, you/she will have to explain the emphasis is "uh" not "ah" or "eh".
I think it's a great name!?
Me too. I think this is a name that she'll have to pronounce over and over again. If that bothers you, I'd choose a different name. ?
