DH and I do not really practice any religion and I was brought up Lutheran as a child, although we only occasionally attended church and were not strict practicing Christians in any way. DH was baptised as an adolecent-- it was the way his religion did it. I was baptised as an infant and so were all of my other family members and we typically had special outfits we wore as keepsakes and a big party afterwards. So, I kind of feel like we are supposed to have DS baptised as well, honestly more for traditions sake more than anything else. (Is that weird??) But I am not really sold on the idea, since we are not really religious and do not attend any church, and DH kind of thinks of baptism as something one does when they are older, since that was his experience. So, I am not sure what to do... I am wondering if maybe we should have a "welcome home baby" / "meet the baby" kind of party instead, if we don't do some kind of baptism? But all of the family members and friends who would likely attend something like that have already met baby...
In your opionion, do most people have some kind of celebration for their baby, religious or otherwise?
Are you/ did you?
What will you/ did you do?
How old will LO/ was LO when you had it?
I kind of want to have some kind of gathering, but then I think of the planning and money involved and I am not so sure!
Re: POLL: Did you/ Are you going to have a "welcome home baby"/ christening/ baptism/ bris, et
please, if you don't want ot have a baptism , then DON'T. don't start your kid out on the hypocrite foot so early!
we did not have a baptism, and we had a 'meet and greet' as i called it for the baby. hehe. It was very low key, kind of an open house.. people showed up, ate some food, held the baby, and left. it was actually really fun and REALLY relaxed.
I think most people have some sort of new baby welcome, but it doesn't have to be religious. Do what you are comfortable with.
DH and I are not church goers, but we both received a religious education growing up and want Jude to have the same. DH's family is Catholic, so Jude will be baptized Catholic this summer and we will have a big reception afterward. It will be the first time most of DH's side of the family gets to meet him.DH: Made all his Sacraments- attended Catholic School from K-8
Me: Baptized, didn't make the other Sacraments until same yr as wedding.
I always knew I wanted our children to grow up Catholic and thought it'd be hypocritical to not make them myself.
Baptism- 5/17, we're having a celebration at a hall same day. About 100 people are invited. DH comes from a big extended family. DS will be 4.5 months old.
