Mason just doesn't really seem interested in toys. Is this normal at 5 months? He grabs for things, but he has never really shown more interest than that. He will hang onto rattles and such for a short period of time and then they get tossed.
When did your DC show an interest in toys?
Re: Did your 5 mo old play with toys?
Right around then was when we started to introduce more interactive toys & toys she had to sit up to play with. We'd sit with her to support her and she'd play.?
That's when she really got into toys. Even though some of them were a little advanced for her, it gave her a new perspective. She even liked her older toys more when she was sitting. ?
do you have a play gym for him or an exerauser? those are things he can play and enjoy now, it takes time, but he'll learn
Once he starts sitting on his own he'll start play
that was right around the time where she was just starting to 'get' toys.
the first thing that she really enjoyed was the FP Stage. Really helped her learn to sit. and she loved the lights and banging on things. She still really likes it now at 10.5 months.
At that age she was really enjoying the exersaucer and jumperoo a lot. (wow this is hard to remember- what she was like five months ago).
we still did a lot of tummy time. she crawled pretty early because she had tons of tummy time. we would read books on our tummies.
DS started playing with toys once he could kind of sit up. His first favorites were blocks and nesting cups. He just liked to bang them together. Or if I stack them, he likes to knock them down. Anything that makes noise is good, or things with different textures he can "explore" in his mouth. Now that he's a little older, he likes to "read" his board books (open and shut them, turn the pages and babble), and roll a rubber ball.
The Jumperoo was good from about 3 months-7 months. It had lots of stuff to manipulate, so DS "learned" to play with the stuff (that his moving it caused a noise or whatever.) I think that helped set the stage for "playing" later on. You can get them at consignment shops pretty cheap, I think, or borrow one because you don't use it that long.
