I should know this seeing as I am 28 years old and should know better. But I have never been on the pill. When I get to the special pills at the end of the pack, is that when I will get my period?

Yes it it.. They are sugar pill so they let your hormone level drop and that is when your period shows up.

Yeah, they basically do nothing at all, but I imagine they're in there just so you can keep the routine of taking the medicine.

depends onw hat kind you're taking. if it's the regular 28 day cycle, you should get your period after the 21st (active) pill. the white ones (sugar pills) are the ones you take during your "off" week to remind you to take the pill.

Yep. Those are sugar pills. It won't start on the first pill (usually) mine starts on about the third.

and ps, nothing happens if you don't take them. they're just sugar pills so you can stay in your routine of taking the pill every day.

How is it not a REAL period. It's your uterus shedding b/c no fertilized egg implanted. Just because it's false hormone-induced doesn't mean it's not the same thing. All the pill does is trick your body into thinking it's pg so you won't ovulate. Your uterus still functions the same ol' way. If not, I guess I've just been misinformed all these years.

Since you do not ovulate on the pill, the uterine wall does not thicken like with a normal menstrual cycle, so the uterine wall doesn't "shed". That is why "pill periods" are lighter than a true period, you are just bleeding because of the hormone imbalance. ?

If the uterine wall still needed to be shed on the pill, you wouldn't be able to take the active pills continuously (like you can with some brands like Lybrel and Seasonale).?

Some people (my sister, for example)?aren't as affected by the?interruption?in hormones and do not have a "period" at all while on BCP, even with the sugar pills. ?Her uterus still functions just fine. =P
