Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Where did you LO sleep...

...when you first brought them home from the hospital?  Our bedroom is very small and our pack n' play will not fit.  A bassinet seems like a waste since he'll only really be using it for the first 2-3 months or so (the one we looked at was for up to 15lbs).  Did anyone put their LO in a crib in their own room right away?  His nursery is next to our room and probably about 5 steps away- all that separates the 2 rooms is our linen closet.  But somehow I feel guilty, like he needs to sleep in our room and if he doesn't I'm being neglectful.  WDYT?  Then there's the other side of me that thinks it's better to get him used to sleeping in his own crib/room right from the get-go.

Any insight/feedback/experience is appreciated!  TIA!

Re: Where did you LO sleep...

  • LO slept in the pack n play in our bedroom.

  • DS slept in the pack n play and still does but that was only for my piece of mind. ?It is more than fine to put them in the crib from night 1. ?Jonah actually loves his crib and I want to put him in there now but DH doesn't lol.
  • He slept in a cradle in our room for about 6 weeks. ?But after the first week, I would put him in his crib after the second nighttime feeding (usually around 3-4 am). ?That way, DH wouldn't disturb him when he got up for work. ?He was fine in his crib, and I know lots of people who put their LO in the crib from night one. ?

If you're not comfortable with the crib, could you see if you could borrow a bassinet from a friend or relative? ?Or look for a used one on Craigs List or eBay?

  • LO slept in bed with us in a snuggle nest type of thing. It was 40 bucks. There is nothing wrong with putting your child in his crib. Alot of people do that and look at it this way you will never have to worry about making a transition to the crib after he is a few months old.

  • I had a c-section and didn't use the stairs for a week after we got home, so DS slept in his pack n play in the living room.  We usually co-sleep but when we don't he has always slept in his crib since that first week.
  • DD is in a PNP in our room. But, if I were in your shoes I would be fine with having him in his own room. Our nursery is across the house, too far for my comfort level right now.?

  • DD sleeps in her bouncy seat next to my side of the bed. It's a tall one, so she is even with the bed, and it's very easy for me to reach over to her. Once she sleeps better at night, we will be putting her in her PNP in our room. At 4-5mo, we will be transitioning her to her crib. Her room is the furthest room from ours (probably a good 30 second walk), and I want to get to know her cries (hungry, fussing, crying out but still asleep, etc) before I make that walk multiple times a night!

  • PNP in our bedroom.  We moved her to her crib after about 2 weeks because she was such a loud sleeper!

I originally thought I would have her in her crib from the get-go but onced I had her I wanted her close!

  • pnp next to our bed, i will be sad when we transition to her crib, but that is what we bought it for right?  In your situation, I would go with crib.  Our DD nursery is upstairs from our room.
