Babies: 9 - 12 Months

For those who have "delayed" crawlers...

Including me...I found this article that made me feel more at ease. (My DD is getting there, slowly but surely. She definitely scoots and flaps her arms while moving. She looks like a baby bird.) Stick out tongue

When should I start to worry about my baby not crawling?

Babies don?t always reach developmental milestones at the same time. By the time your baby is a year old, he should be making an effort to move around in some way, shape, or form. He may not necessarily start crawling but he should be able to move around on the floor by scooting, sliding, creeping or rolling. If your baby has not figured out a way to coordinate his arms and legs to move around on the floor by the time he is 12 months old, you should contact your doctor. You should also contact your doctor if you notice that he is only using one side of his body to move around with. If he is dragging one side of his body around when he crawls or scoots (for over one month), you should alert your doctor.

  • That does make me feel better!  DD isn't even doing the baby bird moves you mentioned.  She rolls, shoves herself backwards, etc but no crawling.

my DD has the same outfit as your siggie pic on the right :-)

  • Thanks for posting this! It seems like there are a lot of early crawlers on this board. 9 or 10 months is the average age for crawling, and some don't crawl at all. It's hard sometimes to keep in mind that there is such a huge "normal" range and just because some babies are crawling at 7 months doesn't necessarily mean yours should be.

  • DS just started! ?In a period of about 2 weeks, he went from not moving around at all while on his belly (except for barrel rolling :), to spinning himself around, to army crawling, to now getting up on all 4's and trying to coordinate all his limbs! ?It's happening so fast. ?We're also working with walking around - I have a feeling he'll be walking before he actually crawls around like normal.?
