So we shook the cribs at BRU... :-(

The Graco Lauren seems totally crummy!  They also had a few Delta dropside cribs and I wasn't wowed.  Maybe it's because everyone shakes the crap out of them or maybe I should plan on spending $300 minimum for a sturdy dropside crib?

So now the leading contender is the fixed-side Da Vinci Parker Crib because it has a dip in the front.  Sadly, they didn't have any of these on display, but it's highly rated on Amazon.

  • As much as I hate to promote Walmart, you might want to check out cribs on their website...they have helpful reviews.  Unfortunately, I don't think you can see any of them in person.  :(

  • why do you need to shake the cribs?  I doubt those cribs are perfectly assembled, and they get manhandled by people all day long every day.  Dropsides are also goign to have a little bit of play to them, since one side moves.  It's not going to have the same tight fit as one with a fixed side.

My sister got her crib from Walmart and she really likes it.

I got my crib off of craigslist.  $100 well spent!  :)

  • I felt the same way about BRU cribs.  And, I'm super duper biased toward Amazon.  But, you can always return it within 30 days if you're not happy.  We ordered our crib online, from Land of Nod and have been really happy.

Davinci is a great brand.  Another one you might like that is fairly new from them is the Richmond crib which comes with the toddler and queen conversion kits and also a drawer.

fwiw, the entire industry is getting away from dropside cribs due to the number of recalls.

  • Two things.

    1. I worked at BRU for a bit - and I can tell you that those cribs are NOT assembled very well...they set those up really quickly and I doubt they tighten everything correctly.

    2. I have the Graco Lauren and when assembled the RIGHT way, it is a lot sturdier.

  • Penny's also has great prices on cribs. And I had great customer service as well.

  • I thought I heard somewhere that they are going to stop making dropsides?? Maybe not....

Anyway, we got our crib from BRU and its VERY sturdy. DH essembled it (and spent a lot of time) and we have been very happy with it. It's not a dropside though. GL in your search!

  • They definately aren't going to stop making drop sided cribs anytime soon.  I have one and its the only one I could use with a bad back!  Convertable cribs are awful for me to use!

I wouldn't base quality of the crib by going to the store and shaking them...they are quickly put together for display purposes and many times they aren't really even put together according to specs.

    We have this crib https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3341317

Cruz climbs the sides like a monkey and jumps up and down in it and I have even climbed in it a night or two when he was sick!  I can tell you that put together correctly this crib is super sturdy! Its also great to have storage under it!
