Would you feel safe parking your nice stroller (BOB, Bugaboo, etc.) outside rides and shows and stuff? I'm on the fence here. It would be nice to have my fave stroller there, but I would be devastated if someone took it. Are people really brazen enough to steal a stroller in the "Happiest Place on Earth?"
Re: Would you take a $$ stroller to Disney?
While there in Jan, we saw tons of expensive strollers. We decided to forgo the hastle and rent one in the park....that was a great idea! Someone once suggested taking a diaper and soaking it in root beer, hanging it from a visible place on the stroller and no one would bug it.... they'd think it as a poopy diaper.
Yes, they are. Someone posted about the fact that their stroller was stolen a few weeks ago.
I wouldn't take my P&T, that's for sure.
DS - December 2006
DD - December 2008
You're right, renting one is much easier. However, we will still need one for the airport, dinners outside the parks, around the resort, walking to the bus stop after leaving the parks, etc. I just don't think we can get away without taking one of our own.
Annapolis, who was it that had theirs stolen? That is awful! I think I would be camping out at the park exit waiting on them to try to escape with my stroller.
Why have any expensive, easy to use stroller if you can't use it somewhere like Disney where you will be doing a ton of walking?
Buy one of those steel cable bike locks that you can weave in between the wheels and around the frame so that the wheels won't move is someone tries to roll off with it.
lol about the diaper. ?I don't know about an expensive stroller... ?We just went, and I figured our Baby Trend Expedition was safe because there were so many other more expensive strollers around. ?If someone were going to steal a stroller, I figured they'd pick a nicer one. ?
There were plenty of the rented strollers around, but the seats didn't look that comfortable to me--- hard plastic. ?I was glad we had our double jogger with the seats that leaned back all the way for DS #2 to take a nap.?
I can't remember who had the stroller stolen, but I think it was a bugaboo stroller. I'd be devestated if someone stole our stroller too (Bob Revolution - single and double). I agree with pp - as much of a pain in the rear it would be, I would bring a really good bike lock (or maybe two) to help lock it up.
I am so paranoid that I won't go to the shows at the zoo because I don't want to leave my stroller down in the mass stroller corral.
We go to Disney all the time (we don't live that far away) and I would never take our $$$ stroller to the parks. They are routinely stolen. My Mom was sitting in front of the Mexico pavilion and saw someone try to steal a Maclaren $$$ stroller. She actually went up to them and said "Excuse me, that stroller belongs to someone else" (she had just seen the family go into the building). They said "no big deal, we'll get ourselves a different one".
Also, for the pp who said to buy a chain? Many of the stroller places have been redesigned. They now have stroller parks where you can not lock a stroller to anything. Also, the attendants ask you not to lock your stroller in any fashion (meaning, with a chain) because they have to continuously move the strollers. As an example, if you're in the MK and want to take DC on "It's A Small World", the place to park your stroller is some distance away. It's just a patch of pavement.
So, my suggestion is "rent a stroller". First of all, they're waterproof. And you won't be out $$$ if someone decides to help themselves to it.
I have always taken our expensive strollers to Disney and never had an issue. You can't lock it to anything, but you can lock it's own wheels.
That being said, if you are using Disney transportaion do not take a big strioller. It is a HUGE pita to get on and off buses, especially if you have bags and a sleeping or cranky child.
As I said in my post, the attendants in the parks are.. what words can I say... strongly discouraging you from locking the stroller to itself. They have to move it.
Liam is 5!
Hopeful, do you really want to get into it with the stroller attendants? If that's your idea of having a fun day at the parks, then by all means. And, yes.. they *do* move the strollers because people come and get theirs and it leaves gaps and the attendants move the ones that are still there so people can put in the ones they have.As for us, we just let them do their job. And good luck with that waiver!
I would definitely take it! We saw tons of expensive strollers. Sure there is a risk, but to use the stroller that you bought, I think it is worth it.
If you rent, remember you aren't going to have a stroller after you leave the park - carrying your sleeping child to the car/hotel does not look fun, plus the airport.
Absolutely. If you've got people in your party who can take turns watching the stroller, then that's one of the best way to handle it.
One thing about visiting the parks, be sure to bring something to cover it (your own stroller) if it rains. Many people remember to bring something for themselves but forget that once the stroller gets drenched, it's almost useless until it dries out. And it rains here in August! It's our rainy season (and our hurricane season).
You can't take the stroller on the tram in an opened position. So you have to carry your DC
Sorry, I meant like on the monorail, we had no problem leaving DD in it when we stayed at the polynesian (plus the hotel was big, so getting around in it would have been rough without the stroller) and we recently stayed at another Disney resort (blanking on name) and it was nice to use the stroller to get the bus (had to collapse on the bus, but you were sitting - hopefully) and then from the walk from the bus to the park.
What most 'experts' (meaning the people that write those Disney guide books) suggest is buying an inexpensive folding stroller that reclines and has a canopy. Strollers are problems on the buses and trams and one that collapses easily is so much easier.
That way, you have a stroller of your own for when you are not in the parks.
Depending on how crowded the monorail is, the engineers (cast members) will ask you to fold it up. If you can't do it fast enough, they'll ask you to wait for the next train.
I absolutely agree that having a stroller of your own is a definite plus! It's just that I can't recommend bringing an expensive one.
And didn't you just love the poly? Sweet hotel!
The polynesian is FANTASTIC! It was the best resort at Disney. So worth the money.
Thank goodness we never had mean engineers!
We stayed at the polynesian when DD was only 1 and we took a big stroller!
We've stayed at every hotel on Disney property (except the military lodging) and Poly was always one of our favorites! Many love the Grand Floridian but we actually preferred the Poly over it.
It's not that the engineers are mean, it's just that depending on the crowds, they sometimes prefer to board more passengers to move things along. When we ride in the first car (so much fun!) they did allow us to keep the stroller open. Thank goodness because by that time, it was loaded with packages!
I guess after being there 500+ times, one gets to see so many different scenarios. I'm happy that you had a great experience!
I know I am responding VERY late to this post but I was the one that had my stroller STOLEN from Sea World. I had a new City Mini Jogger Double. Still mad about it!
Yes, I would still bring an expensive stroller to a park (because I refuse to alter my lifestyle for jackasses) but I would definitely bring a bike lock. If I can't lock it to anything, I would lock the wheels together so it can't roll it would make it way more difficult to steal.
