Toddlers: 24 Months+

I hate all you moms that have babies who STTN!!!

Night number 2 of CIO brought us back to square 1.

I read everyone's comments about leaving the room to do CIO.  It took ds about 50 minutes last night to fall asleep with me in the room so I took everyone's advice and tonight I sat outside the room.

It was ok for about 15 minutes- he drank his bottle, played in the crib with all the animals I put in with him.  Then started to cry.  No problem- I had the video monitor and watched.  Then he made a face and got very quiet.  Too quiet.  Yep- before I could get to the room...puke all over the place.

Oh- but he wasn't done.  Because when I was changing him I realized that puke wasn't the only smell.  Diarrhea too.  My ds stressed himself out so badly he puked and had diarrhea!

I'm not giving up!  I'll try again tomorrow.  But he can't sleep in his crib tonight because it's all wet from me cleaning the puke.  This sleep thing is unbelievable.  For all those moms who have babies that go down easily...appreciate it!!!!

  • Oh no- Jessicada76 - I'm not upset that people suggested I leave the room.  I thought it might make it easier on ds.  The only way to find out was to try it.  Now I know he does better with me in the room.  It's the only way he won't puke.  It is what it is.

At least I'll be able to nest while he goes to sleep!!  Otherwise, I have to leave my computer desk which is in his room (small apt). :)

  • Oh you poor thing! If it's any consolation to you, my little bro used to cry until he puked. He's a functioning member of society now, nearly a college graduate and at 21, he's STTN like a champ!

Keep the faith ... my DD didn't STTN until 16 mos. I had to put her down DEAD asleep. At almost 22 mos, she has no trouble falling asleep by herself. Be strong!

  • Don't hate me!  DD just started STTN within the past week!

We had some of the same problems.  She would cry until she puked.  Once she realized that all that meant was that she got out for a little while and then was put back in the crib (after she was clean), she started climbing out of the crib.  I kept trying and one day she just stopped all of the shenanegens and cried and then went to sleep.

You have to hang in there! It will get better!  He has to STTN eventually!

  • Has he been co-sleeping?  Don't stress about it, just try again.  P didn't start sttn until he was over a year old.

  • Olivia just started STTN about a month ago when we did CIO.  She didn't puke, and I would not have been able to continue it if that happened, so I am sure you are upset right now!

  • I am right there with you. We have only been doing this for a week and 1 day and its still so hard. ?Going to bed is a little better, but when she wakes up in the middle of the night is when its hard. ?You just want to grab them and stick them in your bed. ?When we did let her CIO, she doesn't puke, cross my fingers, but she does have diarrhea. ?She even points to her butt, just so we can take her out, but she has nothing. ?I even seen her try to push it out. ?We can do this! ?Be strong!! ?
  • Ugh hugs and support after another tough night.  Hang in there, he'll be fine and eventually you'll be fine too!
  • And, a nice glass of wine goes a long way in helping with CIO!! (for you, not the baby)
