This is my first time over on this board, simply because I am interested in baby names. However, I have to say there are several individuals that are flat out rude on here! Using the words "hideous and terrible" to describe a name that obviously somebody likes? If it's so terrible then offer a suggestion instead of just shooting them down like that! These women are asking for help, not ridicule when it comes to one of the most important decisions in their lives. I think a little bit more constructive criticism would go a lot farther than insults. Just my two cents.
Re: Ladies, What's with the hating?!
Ridicule is what the kid is going to get with some of those names. Be real. Some of the names are ridiculous. You are naming a child not entering a "how many vowels can I use" or "how can I take a normal word and make it a bizzare name" contest.
Some names are hideous and terrible. Unless they rename this board the "blow smoke up someone's ass" board, then snarky we be.
My friend is naming her DD Riyeliegh. If she was a nestie I would tell her straight up to drop all the extra stupid letters and just spell it in a way that the poor girl wont have to repeat her entire life. But she's not and I won't tell her that IRL. If someone said a name is horrible on here, then it's just what all her IRL friends are thinking but won't say. Also, don't ask if you don't want different opinions.
Riyeliegh?!? Poor kid.
Ditto to what you said. I think it's important to get the honest truth about possible names, especially the nontraditional ones (or traditional ones with "nontraditional" spellings).
oh, brother. ?you ask for opinions, i'm gonna give you mine. ?if i like a name, i'm not going to hesitate in expressing that, too.
besides, most folks IRL won't tell you the truth for fear of hurting your feelings. ?at least we'll be straight up and hopefully you'll avoid scarring your kid for life.?
WOW. You are a real ***. Congrats.
The names BB and some others are opposing so vehemently are names that are, well, pretty bad. Names that have obviously been orchestrated to break as many linguistic rules as possible.
But I think the ones the OP means are different. There are a few people, and you know who you are, who are making it their life's work to attack names that aren't off the beaten path, have no weird spellings, etc., and doing so after the name has been decided on, which has traditionally been considered bad form. You know, if you're saying "We're thinking of naming her Rhoawze, after my Grandma Rose. WDYT?" is different than, "We've decided. Her name is Rhoawze. We're so happy with it. It's such a relief to have it picked and not worry about it anymore, isn't it?"
I know recently I've seen names as commonplace as Parker and Alice pretty much evicerated.
