Alcohol/Caffeine

Ever since ttc I have been on a roller coaster with alcohol and caffeine.  At first I cut it out completely, then I would just have it before O and when AF showed back up.  My OB at the time thought that might be setting my body off and that I shouldn't worry just everything in moderation -- I was light on both anyhow.  So on non-treatment cycles I would have some the entire cycle and lighten up in the 2ww.  Now that I am in my first treatment cycle I am back on the wagon for the entire cycle.  Just curious what everyone elses viewpoints are...

Re: Alcohol/Caffeine

  • I think caffiene can have adverse effects. In fact I have heard of clinics who will not take day 3 b/w if you have had caff. in the 72 hours prior to coming in. The alcohol is really not good either. I def indulge in a glass of red wine here and there but I am trying to stop that as well. You should listen to YOUR dr who is treating your issues, but IMO its worth it to get healthier and cut out all this stuff if you are already working so hard to make this happen.

  • I dont drink, so thats not hard for me. Caffeine on the other hand is a diffrent story. When we did IVF in oct. I quit cold turkey, and I am a coffee every morning kinda girl.

Now I will just have a 1/4-1/2 a cup in the mornings and a occasional soda, so I have very limited intake of caffeine.

  • Thanks caityr, that was kinda why I figured of just going back on the wagon full on.  It was def good to hear about the caffeine...it makes me feel better about not having that cup o joe I so wanted on CD 1 last week.  I do think that if this IUI is a BFN I may need to have that glass of red wine you spoke of, if only for cd1...Good luck to you!
  • When in an IVF cycle, I give up drinking alcohol. ?When not in an IVF cycle, I have 2-3 drinks per week.

I have decaf coffee and an occasional soda when I am cycling. ?I come way under the caffeine limits for pregnant women, so I am not really worried about it.?

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • I have a cup of coffee each morning and about 4-5 drinks/week.  My RE never said anything about alcohol or caffeine.

I feel my consumption is moderate and it's my PCOS that preventing me from getting pregnant, not the occasional glass of wine.
