Anyone not having success with Ferber?

Anyone tried Ferber with no success? We have been trying Ferber for almost two weeks now without any significant progress. My son is waking up 5-6 times a night. Last night he cried for 45 mins without any signs of stopping, so I finally picked him up. What's the longest it's taken your LO to fall asleep with Ferber? Please help..I'm at my wits end! We've tried rocking him back to sleep, but the minute we lay him in his crib he wakes up and starts screaming. If Ferber didn't help, what did?

    haven't tried but what about putting your DS to sleep earlier? that's what HEALTHY SLEEP HABITS HAPPY CHILD author recommends
