I have a Toyota Camry. Should I install the car seat base on the passenger side or in the center? I figured the driver's side it would be hard to see her in the rearview mirror.
I appreciate the feedback. This is my first baby and I feel clueless about these simple things.
Re: Where to install car seat?
I was wondering the same thing....
I would think the center would be a lot safer but on the pasengers side would be a lot easier. Of course safer is better than more convenient.
I'll be doing center.
read your car manual. It should say in there.
I always thought that you do the center for most small cars. But when I read my manual is said one of the sides.
Depends on the year of the Camry. Most newer models you should be able to install in the middle because they were made with the latch behind the rear seat. Older models may not have the latch system in the middle so you'd have to go with behind the passenger.
Never install an infant seat behind the driver (unless you have twins or a special circumstance) becuse if you parallel park you dont want to take the baby in & out on the street side - very dangerous!
Also, when you install the seat, and wherever you go to have it inspected, just remember:
1) you should NEVER be charged for a carseat inspection and if they try and charge you a fee, you're being scammed.
2) After the inspection is done, try and jostle the seat around. If you're able to move it any more than an inch or 2 from side to side or front to back, the inspector failed his/her job.
3) If you install the seat yourself, have someone help you. Put your knee into the seat and put all your weight into it while you're tightening the straps & such. That will insure the seat is truly as tight as it can be in your car.
This info comes from my dad who works for Toyota and does all their carseat installations & inspections.
Thanks everyone for the great feedback!
I am going to check my manual. I have an 05, I hope it has latch for the middle seat....
