My c/s were 17 months apart. Unfortunately, when they did the second c/s they found that my uterus was stretched super thin (due to 1st c/s) and if I would have gone into labor my uterus may have ruptured. If I get pregnant again (not planning to) then I need to have a c/s earlier to prevent going into labor.
I did ask my OB after my 1st was born how long I should wait to get pregnant. She said usually wait at least a year, but I was 36 so I had the risks associated with being AMA to factor in there. She said to wait at least six months and I got pregnant eight months after my first son was born.
To answer your second question, you do have an option for a VBAC which is a vaginal birth after a c-section. Not all doctors do it so you need to talk to your OB.
I was 36 when I had a C/S to have DS. At that time my Dr recommended waiting at least 1 yr between C/C's. It ended up taking us 17 month to get a 2nd BFP so it will be just over 3 years before I have my 2nd C/S. It kind of sucks b/c I was just starting to get all of my feeling back at the incision site and now I'll be back to square one.
Ditto pps, my OB told me to wait a year between c-sections, and if that was too long, wait a MINIMUM of six months before getting pregnant again. I am pregnant with my second child now and my son was 17 months old when we conceived.
I am definitely having another c-section this time. My OB did give me the option of trying VBAC, but I think the important thing to consider is the reason you had your first c/s. Mine was due to "failure to progress", meaning the baby just never descended through the birth canal even after nearly 36 hours in labor. This is more common in women over 35 and the chances of my having a successful VBAC were only about 30%. Given that and the fact that I have a son to worry about when I deliver this time, I'm going the scheduled c/s route.
