3rd Trimester

34 Week U/S -- Enlarged Kidney

Well the appointment started out good. Though the baby is estimated at 5 lbs 10 ozs. Then the doctor comes in (my u/s are the hospital b/c I'm considered high risk, so its not my usual doc) and takes a look. My placenta still looks ok, which is great. Then, he starts telling us that we shouldn't worry but the baby may have an enlarged kidney, which is common between 33 and 36 weeks. So they'll take a look at my 37 week u/s and then will do a sono on the baby after birth to make sure its nothing. So, I'm totally ok, but then he proceeds to tell us that its really nothing major -- people live with one kidney all the time and its not a reason to deliver early. Yeah -- great thought to put in my mind all day.

So slightly distraught I go to work and keep my composure for the day. I'm so busy my mind is preoccupied. Then I get an email from DH saying that he googled it and its popular especially in boys b/c the testicles haven't descended yet. Of course, now he's convinced we're having a boy, which I've thought all along.?

Has anyone else been given this diagnosis? Anything come out of it? Just curious. Thanks!!!?

???

Re: 34 Week U/S -- Enlarged Kidney

  • I don't have any experience with this. I just wanted to tell you that you and baby tennis will be in my thoughts. Hopefully this will just be something that showed and will be fine by the next u/s.

Not sure how it happened, but growing up my bf only had 1 kidney. She never had any issues or complications because of it.
