D.C. Area Babies

Well that was a doozy of an appt.

So I had my appt with my normal dr today after the earlier ultrasound I had on Wednesday where they told me she was small. Turns out she's measuring closer to 3 weeks smaller than where she should be- although dr did admit that the ultrasounds can be off. They had also checked the circuluation of blood/fluids from the placenta to the baby and I guess things looked ok, but the dr is worried that the baby is not getting what she needs in terms of nutrition. So he wants the baby out sooner rather than later b/c he doesn't think things can go until week 40. So instead of having a c/s on 4/18 like I was supposed to (b/c she's breech) I'm having one on Thursday b/c at that pt she'll be 38 weeks and her lungs have a better chance of being mature! And I've been put on bed rest.

I was not expecting this at all. I feel totally unprepared and definitely a bit anxious.

  • Things will be just fine. Big Smile  You can think of the bedrest as forced relaxation before your DD gets here, right?  Best of luck!

  • I wish you the best.  I know it will be hard not to worry while on bedrest, but take the time to relax.  Very soon your life will change drastically.Big Smile

  • Wow, unexpected indeed! I can imagine how that would be nerve wracking but it sounds like they just want to take a cautious approach with things. Take care of yourself and like Agrippa said, maybe this will help give you some down time before baby arrives.

Keep us posted on how things are going! Think of all the bump surfing you can do now...just what you wanted, right? ;-)

  • use the bedrest as your last opportunity to rest. Everything will be fine!!
  • OH MY!! ?I'm so sorry you got hit with this. ?If you want to meet up for coffee (although on bed rest, that might not be possible), I'd be happy to meet up with you and chat if you want to get your mind off of things, talk about it, etc. ?Let me know. ?On the bright side, exciting that you get to meet your little girl in less than a week!

  • Those ultrasounds can definitely be off. ?Glad the doctors are being proactive and letting you meet you baby sooner!
  • I had a VERY unexpected c/s at 32 weeks.  I was terrified, especially since it all happened so quickly.  But everything went perfectly and it wasn't nearly as horrible as I had anticipated.  I didn't feel anything that they were doing, it took maybe 45 minutes total (preparation, surgery, closing).  I was super nauseous coming off of the anesthesia and couldn't eat for 24 hours.  My recovery was pretty quick.  I was up and walking, carefully, the next day.  At 38 weeks, your DD is full term and will be just fine.
  • This is EXACTLY what happened to me. ?I was induced at 38+2 for the same reasons. ?DD came out at 6 lbs even and has been perfectly healthy ever since. ?I was upset at first, as I didn't want to induce (and especially early), but I'd do it the exact same way with baby #2 if I could. ?I had a good experience and I'm sure you will too.
  • Oh no.  Every morning I haul this belly out of bed I wish I was bed rest but I know I really don't mean it because it would drive me crazy - add in worrying about the baby and I know how hard it must be.  It seems like they are taking every precaution to make sure your LO is ready to come out.  My niece was born at 34.5 weeks and perfectly healthy, so even if she is 38 weeks minus the 3 week difference, she will probably still be fine.  I know it is hard to hear that anything could be even slightly wrong though.  Good luck on Thursday!!
