Sand and water table?

Would this be a good 1st B-day gift? ?We live in TX, so I want something he can play with outside, but I don't know if he will enjoy playing with it as much as he will want to just put the sand in his mouth.

?Also, if you have one you like, can you tell me which one?

?

Thanks.?

Re: Sand and water table?

  • We opted for just the water activity table.  Thought the sand would just end up a mess/in his mouth, etc.  Haven't had a chance to use it yet, we live in MI and it hasn't been warm enough

  • You know, that might be ?a good solution. ?I never thought to get just a water table. ?What kind do you have? ?Do you like it?
  • Last summer we bought DS a water table.  It was $30 from Target.  He loved it but it didnt hold up for this summer.  I bought too cheap of one I guess.

  • I had the step two water table last year for DS and it broke in a matter of minutes. It was the water wheel one. The tubes kept falling off of the bottom and the legs fell out all of the time. This years model looks a little better made, but I wouldn't invest in one.
  • My Mom got this one for DD's Birthday. It is really nice, but DD just makes a huge mess picking up sand and throwing it over her shoulder. I think she might be a bit young for the sand, so we are going to clean out the sand & maybe get a bag of big polished stones b/c DD loves to pick up rocks. Then she can throw them in the water. • we're getting the boys one for easter, but i am not putting sand in it. eff that. we got one from step 2 that has a big umbrella. but since i have a herd of children, i need a big one. i'm sure a smaller one would work fine for your son.

and we live in louisiana, so about the same climate. HOT.

eta: the one we got is the one napleswife posted a link to.

  • We just bought the Step 2 Sand and Water one for DD. Right now it's sitting on our back deck with just sand.  She loves it and plays with it for about an hour or so each night after dinner.  I bought some cheap rakes, shovels, buckets, etc from Target to go along with it.  If it ever stops raining here in NC, we'll move it off the deck and onto the patio.  I think it'll be great this summer when it warms up and we can add water.  My nephew is almost 4 and STILL plays with his.

  • We have the same one as Naples...right now its empty and he just plays with his toys in it. I haven't set it up with sand yet, but figured I'd wait on that and based on the other responses, that's probably a good thing, and will just put water in for the weekends for him to splash around.

You just gave me a great idea of a way to keep him busy while we garden, fill it up with water and let him splash around! Thanks!

  • We have the Step 2 Sand and Water table, and I'm so glad we bought it!

We have so many other toys in the backyard, but since buying this, it's the only one that gets played with.  DD loves to drive trucks through the sand, bury sea shells and LOVES to mush the sand and water together.

DS hasn't tried it out yet since it hasn't been warm enough here yet.  I'm a bit worried about him eating the sand, but I'm willing to bet he will have so much fun making a mess that it won't be as big of an issue as I think it will.

  • We just ordered this one.  I read some reviews from another site and they were all favorable.  Some reported that the legs broke but the company replaced them immediately.  I liked that the toys were included too.

This company has a promotion going of 10% off your order of $49 or more and free shipping if you spend $89.  So that halped me make my decision too!

  • We have the step 2 sand and water table as well. ?Currently it is filled with just sand and DD LOVES it. ?She plays happily with it every day. ?I don't think I'll put both sand and water in it at the same time this summer, otherwise it will all get mixed together, but once it gets hot here I may take out all the sand and switch to all water, and then back to sand in the fall. ?We'll see what happens...
  • DS is getting the Step 2 Natural one from the Easter Bunny. I can't wait b/c he seems to like sand and to me it beats him sitting in it. I am still sure we will find sand in places we would have never imagined but not as bad as one he would sit in. It also doesn't take up to much sand and can be changed/cleaned easily.?
