Unfortunately, it won't change the minds of some. Like the moron on craigslist this morning who swears her DS needed to forward face at 6 months because he was too tall for rear-facing. Ugh.
Thank you for posting this!! It gives me another reason to repost as my status on FB I'm sure I'm annoying people, but the main person I'm trying to reach is a friend who turned her DD around and she's barely 18 lbs! To each their own.. I guess. I'd much rather get the info out there!
CP 3/07 BFP 5/07 - Kylie born 2/08. BPF 2/09 - Alexandra born 10/09. TTC since 8/13 - diagnosed difficulty conceiving due to LP defect. Took vitamin B and Vitex Berry to help lengthen. BFP 2/14 - Missed M/C found at 8.5 weeks. D&C at 9w2d. Partial Molar Pregnancy. BFP 11/14

I agree with this. I just don't understand how people are so fast to switch their kids to FF especially after seeing those links that you post. Right now DS hates going in his seat RF, but too bad. I would rather listen to him scream for a couple of minutes than switch him to FF.

I feel your pain.
DD screams too. I am hoping that it will pass sooner rather than later.
Thanks for the info. I don't know if you need to call us dummies if we have turned our kids around though.

If you think it was directed at you it was and you need to deal with that guilt. If not then no worries.
In all seriousness the dummies are the people who do things because it is what is easy (for them or the child) and not what is in the best interest of the child.
That would be nice....are they going to give my DD something to stunt her growth so she doesn't grow out of the RF height limit on the car seat?
We had to turn her at 18mo because she's taller than the "seated height limit" on the Britax Marathon.
Since there is no way to shrink her, she's going to have to stay facing forward.
I would go to a car seat check. I could be totally wrong but I can swear that there is a RF weight limit but not height limit on the marathon (I owned the seat). My DS is one of the biggest here at 34 almost 35 in and he still fits fine, b/c he hasn't hit the weight limit. That is the one that matters.

That is what I thought as well. No height limit, but weight limit is 33lbs.

I don't feel like one. I have reconsidered changing him back to rear-facing since I have gained more information. I turned him around at 15 months because he was well over the legal limit. Now I am more informed. That doesn't mean that I was stupid before.

The rear-facing limit on our Marathon is 35lbs. Our Roundabout has a rear-facing limit of 33lbs, but that is because it is 3 years old. The new seats both have 35lb rear-facing limits.

Am I the only one weary of being lectured by experts about the ever-higher age until which children MUST remain rear-facing? Because I fully expect their next study to say I should still be rear-facing.

Technically, you should be. It's safer for ALL of us. Someone farked up when they designed us with big old heads, little snapable necks, and gave us the ability to crash into each other at speeds we could never acheive on our own.
It would be awesome if we were all in 5-pt harnesses, too- but, we're still struggling to get ignorant _assholes (and if this offends a reader, I mean YOU) to wear their regular old seatbelt, so I doubt that will fly anytime soon.
A child's vertabrae do not fully fuse until 3-6 years old, before then, she is at great risk for internal decapitation. The spinal column can stretch up to 2 inches in a crash BUT the spinal cord can only stretch up to 1/4 inch before it snaps and baby is gone. C)Current research suggests that children under the age of two years are 75 percent less likely to die or be seriously injured when they are riding rear facing. D)In a recent article from Injury Prevention, it was found that the odds of severe injury to forward facing children age 12-23 months old was 5.32 times higher than a rear facing child. (Car Safety Seats For Children: Rear Facing For Best Protection; Injury Prevention 2007; 13:398-402.)

That is what I thought as well. No height limit, but weight limit is 33lbs.
It says on their website Rear Facing, Seated Shoulder Height, 10.5-16". The measurement is taken from tailbone to shoulders while sitting.
Then again, it says 16" for Forward Facing, too!
Hmm.....I'll try carseat check since now I'm really confused.
