What would be the appropriate wording to let guests know that a gift is not required for DS birthday party? With today?s economy, we don?t want anyone to feel like they HAVE to buy something when DS already has so much. We really just want to invite people over for a nice BBQ. I thought I heard something like ?Your presence is gift enough,? but that doesn?t sound quite right... or is it?
Re: Birthday invitation wording?
We say, "we prefer your presence to your presents"

When 3 Became 4
I would say somwthing like this:
Please join us for a BBQ cookout in honor of DS 1st birthday.
If you don't call it a birthday party people might not bring gifts. Either way be prepared, some people will still bring gifts!
