Hi. I have two questions. I'm trying to get DD on a better schedule and we're trying to phase out her bottle/formula and replace it with a sippy cup of milk. It's not going over too well, and we feel like her schedule really isn't that balanced, so I'm looking to see what parents of other 1-year olds are doing, and to see if anyone has any tips on transitioning their child to milk/sippy cups.
8 am-breakfast
10:30 am-Nap (1-1.5 hrs)
12:30 pm-lunch
includes a sippy cup of milk that she spits out
2:30 pm-Nap
4:00 pm-6oz bottle of formula
6:30 pm-dinner...This is late because DH and I would like to be there for at least one of her meals.
7:30 pm-bath, book
8:00 pm bottle (8 oz), bed
We think that there's too much liquid in the afternoon/evening, and not enough in the morning, but we're not sure exactly how much she should be taking in, and how often. Not to mention, she seems to spit everything out of the sippy cup (water, milk, etc).
Any tips? Would you like to share your routine? TIA
Re: Your 1-year old's schedule?and weaning off bottle
As pp mentioned, we started gradually adding whole milk to DS' bottles. Now he is up to about half of each.
We also have just about eliminated the afternoon bottle. He uses a straw sippy cup with lunch. Even if he doesn't drink it all, I keep it in the fridge and offer it to him periodically.
We aren't in a huge hurry to eliminate his morning and night bottles. We'll probably try to replace the morning bottle first. Once that is done we'll start to move the night bottle to maybe an hour before bed so it is not so associated with bedtime and then gradually incorporate it into his dinner. GL!
