3rd Trimester

What was the inspiration for your baby name?

I noticed you guys all have such cute baby names.  How did you come up with them?

We got ours from an amateur European golfer named Rory McIlroy.

It's the only one we could decide on....we fought over boys names for weeks=)

Re: What was the inspiration for your baby name?

  • We're naming our little one Logan David.  Logan is my husband's grandparent's last name and David is after my DH.

  • Madelyn Mary, our girl name, is my mom's middle name (and my great-grandmother's name) + DH's mom's middle name. And yup, my mom's middle name is spelled with a "y."

John Daniel, our boy name, is my (deceased) dad's and DH's dad's name + DH's name.

  • Well, we first started tossing around Sam after watching 7th Heaven (the twins are Sam & David...we liked both names, and David is a family name, but it is so common in our family that we put it on hold).  It stayed on our list of possibilities, and we finally decided it was our #1 choice because it is a classic name, goes well with our last name, has a great meaning for our situation (means "God has heard"), and was a family name several generations back, so it wasn't too closely named after anyone in particular.
  • This baby--for a girl, we had the nickname picked out first (which is also true of baby #2)--it was my & my DH's distant relatives name (happened to be the same name) & very old-fashioned (never hear it anymore at all) like my DD#1's nickname.  Her full name is similar to my sister's name (which I love) & Biblical.  Her middle name is also a female version of my brother's name & biblical  If it's a boy, it's a version of a Saint's name (we heard & liked) & the middle name is DH's, FIL, GFIL's, etc. same middle name (I had no say in that one--LOL).

  • Sparky wanted a German name and I gave him a list of the ones I liked.  He decided on Gelar, a boy name, then we found out we are having a girl and decided to add another l and stick with the boy name anyway.  She'll share her name with 8 people out of a million.
  • Nigel Tolbert is our little ones name. My H and I really like kinda preppy names that aren't super popular so that's the first name. Tolbert is my H's middle name.

If we have a girl one day I'm pretty sure her name will be Ruby Marie. We both have loved Ruby for years (since we started dating 10 years ago) and Marie is both of our mom's middle names.

  • For a girl, ours is an Irish name that I have loved since I was a little girl, and MN after my mother and grandmother. We're undecided on our boy's name, but the frontrunner is H's dad's MN and my dad's name.
  • My DH and I are really into motocross and our fav rider is Ivan Tedesco. Ivan was the only boys name we could agree on!

  • I went through several baby books and wrote down every name I thought was acceptable.  DH went through the names and nixed every single one until the end, then he said this one is ok and I just went with it.  The middle name is after my mom-mom who passed last year on baby's original due date.  Her name will be Vanessa Joann, which works because my mom-mom is known for butterflies EVERYWHERE and Vanessa happens to mean butterfly.
  • Elizabeth Grace.....I have always loved the name Elizabeth but it is also DH's grandmother's name.  She passed away just a couple months ago.  Grace because it sounded good with Elizabeth.

  • That's an easy one! Jack is the only boy name we can agree on! Thomas (the mn) is my dad's mn, but I don't want to tell DH that because I don't like his family names and don't want to be forced to use one of them.

But I have to say that even if it weren't my dad's mn, Jack Thomas is still friggin cute.

Our girl names don't mean anything to us. They're just cute! Now that I know someone on here IRL, I can't say what our #1 name is, but trust me. It's cute!

  • We are naming our son Steven Parker.  He will always go by Parker though.  My dads name is Steven Paul so he will be named after him and also have his same initials.  My parents had all girls so with him being hte first boy my dad was thrilled for that and that we were going to name him after him.
  • My dad passed away last month while we were trying to figure out a name so we decided to use his first two initials and I wanted a family name so the middle name is also my grandmothers middle name.  I like a name that has lots of meaning to me and this one does.

  • I am super close to my maternal grandparents and so we're naming our little girl after my "Nana". Her name is Elsie Faye- but she goes by Faye, so we're using Elsie. Then the middle name is coming from my Grandaddy's mom- her name was Clara, but we thought that Clare sounded better with Elsie... therefore we are going with Elsie Clare. :)
  • Our name is Magnolia, which is from a song....one of our first dates was to a concert and Sugar Magnolia was the first song we danced to.  We'll call her Maggie.

  • Our official name is Norval, which is a fifth generation name on DH's side, so we wanted something that worked well as a nickname (so our son wasn't called Norval on the first day of school every year-haha).  We are using "Noah" as a nickname.
  • Our dog picked it.  Seriously!  Our dog has very good name/word recognition and certain people's names we can't even use because he goes bonkers looking for them.  I was reading DH names out of the baby book and when I read the name we ended up choosing, dog's ears perked up.  I said it again, and he started licking my face and dancing around.  We ran through all the words he knows to see if he was confusing it with something. . . nope.  Luckily, the name grew on us and we decided it was fate.

  • I started looking through baby names on the internet.  I came across Isabella and really liked it.  I read the history and liked the name even more when I found out there is a Princess Isabella of Denmark that will be about 2 years older than our Isabella.

  • ours worked out pretty well...before I met my DH he grew up a big fan of Michael Jordan, and said he always wanted to name a girl Jordan, and my maiden name is Hunt, and my dad is an only child and I don't have a brother, so I always wanted my son to be Hunter. So that worked out well. Because he chose the girl name, I picked her middle name (Jordan Avery) and he picked the boy middle name (Hunter Maddox). It was very smooth and diplomatic for us.
  • We're not telling anyone the baby's name yet until he is born.  The first name is a name we both liked and could agree on.  The middle name is after my brother who died in June 2008 from brain cancer.  We used the way he would spell his name in his e-mail address, because we already have a few family members with this name and we liked the idea of spelling it differently.

do share the name, thats a great story!

  • I was looking for character names for a story I was writing, and I came across a Biblical names website that listed Evi.  Ruth is my mom's middle name, and my husband's maternal grandmother's name.
  • Honestly?  We were having THE hardest time coming to an agreement on ANY name that we decided to do a name bracket.  Dh and I both picked 32 names and randomly assigned them to teams in the NCAA tournament.  As teams lost, names were eliminated.  We ended up deciding on our baby girl's name once we saw all the names, so now the bracket is more just for fun - but we'd still be clueless without it!
